What sports game was ABC airing the morning of October 8th, 1994?

The Cal-UCLA game was scheduled for 12:30 according to San Francisco Chronicle, so it must have been one of the other games.

Yeah, I remember that demonstration. I really thought our guys would win. :frowning:

Anyway, I hope you can take comfort that seven years later, when the regular tv switched to news-only for seven straight days, the kids channels kept the cartoons on.

I really hope that “…some kind of demonstration…” was said tongue-in-cheek!

This is what I was looking at for Georgia Clemson, but I see the ® next to it which I assume means Regional, so I guess the hunt is still on.

I’ll never forgive Oliver North for preempting my Scooby Doo for a whole week of afternoons either.

Damn! Now I’m bummed that I didn’t pick up on the time difference. I’ll have to start over again.

Back in a bit.

OK. Need some more help here. When you say

–this means nothing to me. There were two?

Using another newspaper database(looking at the Ukiah newspaper), Sonic the Hedgehog seemed to come on KGO at 7AM, PST. So this would be 10am, EST. Not likely there was a football game on tv in that time frame. Next was Addams Family at 7:30 on a normal Sat. morn.

So, the question may now be–what pre-empted a 7AM West Coast cartoon on that date? Perhaps not a football game?

Give me some help here.

Kind of an obscure reference/joke—they actually licensed two completely different Sonic the Hedgehog series, at the same time, even with some of the same cast. One of them, which only ran on ABC, was very well done, and has a fan following to this date. The other one was syndicated, and is generally regarded as campy kiddie crap.

But, as it wasn’t on ABC, it luckily doesn’t factor in here, except as a setup for a joke.

Hmmm…very odd. Now I thought it ran at 10, but then again, it was 15 years ago, and I was just going by memory. I know it was preempted, and I’m all but entirely certain it was sports. Perhaps some kind of pre-show or commentary?

The only other thing I can think of off the top of my head is that they bumped Sonic up the schedule that day for some reason, and then preempted it later anyway. Possibly not very sensible, but this is network programming we’re talking about here.

Why not look at the 1pmest/10ampst time slot and see what’s there?

I had a problem as I can’t read the tv schedule for that exact day. So, I read a typical Saturday in September of that year.

I’ll work on it some more.

Does anybody know what time Heidi comes on? Don’t want to miss that movie!

We can eliminate the Miami Florida State game, it was on ESPN and an 8pm est start.

I think you are correct with BC vs ND

Assuming it was a normal start time then this is the one.

Each year, it seems, Notre Dame is at the center of televised college football. It is the best TV attraction, the only university with its own deal, for six home games on NBC. Whether the Fighting Irish’s games are on ABC or NBC, the hope at the network end is that Lou Holtz’s team will be ever in the hunt for a national championship. But last week, when Notre Dame was thrashed, 30-11, by Boston College on ABC, its title hopes were virtually squashed."

The ND vs BC game started at 12PM, EST–so, 9AM, PST.

So it sounds like that is the game then.

…and so, I can finally be at peace. Thank you!

I was sleeping in joy as it was my 4th birthday. Don’t you hate questions that you cant find an answer? One that won’t leave me, what did my mother cook the night of Aug 22, 1999. I don’t remember how to describe it cept’ it was good. One day I will learn to let go of the question and forget the date, hopefully.

It’s always nice to bring threads and questions from the dead, alive… Or just a bad habit

I was thinking about the same thing. Pushing half a century now!

No it’s not. Especially when the question was answered last year.

Was it BRAAAAAAIIINS?
