Just to add another variable that hasn’t been mentioned, anyone know what kind of dialect most of the characters speak in? I don’t but it sure doesn’t seem like KY or MO.
True, sadly I researched this. However, in the “SpringShield” episode (Homer, Lenny, and Carl go around acting like cops) Homer says in his commerical:
“Don’t dial 911-
Dail 636-555-XXXX”
Make of it what you will.
I am glad someone else remembers it being Missouri. I remember in the first airing, it was Missouri. The second time I saw it (still on Sunday, not in syndication), it was Ky. I thought I was having a false memory. Here in Houston, I have only heard it as Ky in syndication. All of this is moot as I know for a fact that the Simpsons live in Springfield, Ohi-ya, Marge!
Trust me, MO dialect varies from house to house and from town to town.
When Springfield split, the other half got 939. If we are to take that seriously, that would put half of Springfield in Missouri and half in Puerto Rico.
Monster put in wallet.
cykrider, I don’t think kunilou was denying 636 is the Simpsons’ area code. He was pointing out that Springfield, Missouri’s area code is 417. The 636 in Missouri is over 200 miles from Springfield, MO (it’s in west St. Louis County).
Has anyone else been watching the Simpsons Season 2? I’ve been watching them with the comentary on since I’ve seen most of them too many times I thought it would be intersting to see what they said.
In one of the episodes they said that Springfield was close to Las Vegas and Mexico because you could drive there pretty quick. So that at least suggests that they live near the SW. Then again they may have been screwing with us. I just wish I knew what episode they said it in. It might have been the Bart the Daredevil because I think they were talking about the gorge. All I know for sure though is that it was on either disk 2 or 3.
Mr. Burns’ Social Security Number is 000-00-0002. Although this is a joke on Mr. Burns’ age, in actuality, the first three numbers of the SSN represent the state in which the person was born in. There is no 000 prefix.
In one episode, the family visited the Five Corners. This does not exist, but there is a Four Corners.
So if Springfield does exist outside of the TV show, it’s in a state that borders Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico which uses the Social Security prefix 000.
Where was the school house moved brick by brick from?
