What state would you love to move to...if it weren't for the current politics there?

Realistically, my friends and family are here, so I’d Rather not move. But…

Montana and Idaho would be a lot more appealing but for politics. And right now, I’d rather not even visit Texas. I’m going to NC and having second thoughts. Did you know that NC nearly made it illegal to wear masks? (They have an old law intended to apply to the kkk, which was suspended during covid. The new law has an exception for “medical masks”, so i just bought a case of n95 masks that are specifically approved for medical use. Um, yes, i still wear masks in crowded public places. )

Anyway, i have gay and trans friends. I have female friends between menarche and menopause. A lot of states look like they’d be hostile to friends who might otherwise visit me.

There’s nowhere I’d rather live than CA. Maybe a bluer county would be better but there’s plenty of places I can move to if Orange County gets too crazy.

One of the coldest Thanksgivings I ever experienced was in Las Vegas. Just bitter, dry frozen air. I’m toolin’ around to work on a motorcycle just dying!

Growing up, farther north, I would normally be skiing on Thanksgiving. Don’t ever recall it being that cold!

The governor just vetoed that bill, which included a last minute amendment to ease the flow of dark money into state races, done specifically so that the insane Republican candidates for governor, attorney general, and the state superintendent can get quiet financial support without anyone knowing who is funding their horrific campaigns.

That veto will almost certainly be overridden.

This state is really scaring me.

As for personal effects, as a teacher in North Carolina, and as a parent of children in public schools, it is heartbreaking to watch the slow and devastating attacks on our public school systems. As a parent of two daughters who will enter their 20s within the decade, it is terrifying to watch the erosion of reproductive freedom. This is not in anyway a theoretical issue for me.

I’ve lived in several states, thanks to the US Navy, and honestly, I can’t think of any place I’d rather live than where I am right now. I like the rural county, I like the proximity to the Chesapeake Bay. Even tho it’s a pretty red county, most people aren’t overly insane about it, and overall, the state is pretty blue.

Maryland. I don’t plan to move.

‘Love’ isn’t the right word, but I’m originally from Ohio and have decided not to apply for a few jobs in Columbus because of the hard right turn the state has taken.

Admittedly, it’s also the endless days of grey winter that keeps me from seriously thinking of returning.

Ohio here and winters are not as bad now. Back in about 2014 I recall 3 weeks of temps in the 20s.
Last winter it was fall like weather til late December.

Truthfully, politics is the only reason I’d want to get out of Missouri, where I am now. However, that distaste of politics has made me rethink living in the USA proper, not just Missouri.

The only thing I really hate about Missouri, other than its politics, is its weather. And there’s really nowhere in the US that has my definition of perfect weather. So I guess that as long as I live in the US, my feet will be in the Show Me State.

Is there anywhere on planet earth that does?

Mexico City looks like it comes closest.

Lovely people but the weather is horrible. Winter is unending gray, Summer is hot with no relief. Fall is when they spray defoliant, etc on the cotton, etc.

Then you indirectly pay property tax.

Weather isnt bad, but the air pollution is crazy high.

Nairobi has a similar climate. Subtropical Highland. Also Cuzco, Addis Abeba, Kunming, Johannesburg, and others.

I have always assumed that I will move back to my home state of Kentucky at some point to begin my life’s final act. But it is a little depressing to ponder given how deeply blood-red the state has turned. Here, in purple Virginia, at least I stand a fairly good chance at, you know, helping to elect a president, for instance. Kentucky is the state that the political forecasters typically call for the Republican presidential candidate about two milliseconds after the polls have closed.

What;s wring with the politics of New Mexico??

And Nevada, for that matter?

I don’t know the politics of NM but I want to move there.

Nothing wrong with the politics of Nevada, as long as you live in Clark County.

There are places that I want to move to. I probably won’t. Politics doesn’t even enter into it. I hate winter and this state is too damn expensive. I doubt I’ll leave because my wife doesn’t want to. The cost of moving is also a factor. The San Diego area sounds nice. Been there once. Also the coast of Florida. I would love to be somewhere that I can enjoy the ocean year round.

I’m perfectly happy in no. Illinois. I would move to Kentucky because of horses. But I won’t. The thought of packing makes me shudder.

There is also that. My sister has moved more times than she could count. I don’t understand the lifestyle. To me it’s the worst thing ever.

 Politics usually isn’t a consideration in my decision to live somewhere.

I wouldn’t live somewhere that laws aren’t enforced. Places like Washington State with Woke DA’s. My family has to feel safe wherever we live. We have to know that someone arrested for violent crime won’t be released by the end of the day. Especially if I see that person back in my neighborhood.
