I know this was referenced here not too long ago, but the search isn’t working well; moreover, I forget what to search upon. Thanks for tolerating my currently-degraded memory.
I’m trying to think of that disco song that was recorded as part of a non-stop live and direct-to-lathe session; as a result, it’s an audiophile hit. Which is it?
I’d be glad to help you…having an extensive library for the autophile and a soft spot for the disco era, but…what the heck are you asking??? In simple English, what does “non-stop live and direct-to-lathe” mean? I take it this has nothing to do with a woodshop?
If I may… “non-stop live” would mean a recording of an actual performance as opposed to a series of overdubs, and “direct-to-lathe” means directly to the record cutting machine, usually making an “acetate” in the process as the more common vinyl is generally pressed or stamped, not cut with a lathe.
So, taken together, it’s a one-shot recording of a studio performance that went straight-to disc, and presumably from there to a duplication plant.
