What the fuck is that -- a Goach?

You can get a very small (read: teeny) Louis Vuitton bag for $500 or so. My LV wallet was well over $300, though. It was gift from my husband. A Coach is closer to $200, I think.

Yeah, I’ve always loathed the logo print trend. I keep waiting for it to die out and 15 years later it’s still going strong.

I suppose unless I can fit all my crap in it, I don’t really consider it a purse. I have seen the teeny, tiny, you could get your credit card and maybe a house key in it Vuitton’s for around $500.

I’ve seen Coach bags starting at about $850, I think. Again, for an actual purse sized bag - not some eensy, weensy kleenex holder.

Funny. I just read a cover story - what was it in… East Bay Express? - about knock-off purses being sold in “purse parties.” Fun times.

I like being a guy. I can wear army surplus and look ok. I can buy thrift shop exclusively and look ok. Just gel my hair and call it vintage, and somehow that works. And if I doesn’t, meh.

The LV symbol looks tacky to me, and not particularly creative. I guess being surrounded by graphic artists specializing in identity will do that to a person. Ironic, that I don’t think I’ve liked a bag that wasn’t either patternless, canvas, or olive drab.

How do you even say “Couture”? What is couture? And why would it be juicy?

What’s up with $70 flip flops that have heels?

These mysteries would nip at my intellect. But I’m a guy. So either I don’t have intellect, or I just can’t be bothered.

Anyhow, I wouldn’t suggest visiting Thailand unless you want a huge heart attack.

You guys do realize you live in different countries with different currencies, right?

I think the white and pastel Vuitton are totally ugly. Real or knockoff. UGLY. There are some bags that I think are attractive (although totally overpriced), but those pastel ones are just plain old ugly.

Right and I’m quoting prices in Canadian funds. That being said, I still don’t think I’ve seen an actual PURSE for less than about $1,500 CDN (which these days is about $1,200 US I think) and as I said, it wasn’t leather. Heck my Fendi beach bag was $850.

I admit that I actually had no idea how much these things cost and just made up numbers. It seems that reality is even more ridiculous. The mind boggles.

I wonder if tariffs are higher in Canada than in the US.

So says you.

Probably - we tend to pay more for most stuff. Although I think that salaries tend to be higher so we wind up about even. I remember watching Oprah and seeing some fella stand up and say that he made $50,000 a year and how not to pay taxes.

The audience seemed to think that $50,000 was high salary.

By “beach bag” do you mean a style of bag or do you mean a bag you actually take to the beach?

If you say “a bag you actually take to the beach,” I think I’ll faint. $850 for a bag to hold a bottle of sunblock and sunglasses and a book, that’s going to get all wet and sandy?
You do know there’s cheap canvas bags for that purpose, don’t you?

Disclaimer: I have plenty of estrogen, but I’ve never owned a purse that cost more than maybe $25 or $30 in my entire life. And I never will.
I hardly ever use one, anyway. I just need my keys, cell phone, Chapstick and tiny wallet thing to hold my driver’s license, debit card and a bit of cash. If I can get it all in my pockets, I’m a happy camper. That’s why I like winter - coat pockets!

$50,000 US is worth quite a bit more than $50,000 CDN. You’re not rich if you make $50,000, I’d say, but you’re doing okay.

According to this website, the US has the third highest per capita income in the world. Canada is 15. According to wikipedia, the US is #2, Canada isn’t listed (it’s only top ten).

Meh. I liked the Fendi.

The Speedy bag, on eLuxury.com, is $545, USD. I see a few decently sized bags in the $700 range. Now you and I may differ on what decently sized is but I think you’ll agree you can find a small to medium sized Louis Vuitton bag for well under $1200.

See for yourself.

Well, it’s worth 20% more anyway.

I seem to be finding statistics that suggest that the average family income in Canada in 95 was arounf $56,000 and that the average family income in the US in 95 was around $45,000. However, I’m having trouble finding an actual meaningful comparison. I don’t think anyone would deny that the richest people in the US are wealthier than the richest people in Canada.

I’ve only ever priced them out at Holt Renfrew. They do appear to be cheaper online. Not that it matters one way or another. They’re somewhat pricey for sure.

Ooo - I think it’s the Alma that I saw for around $1,200.

I like buying knock offs on the street. Not the fake logo ones, but the ones that were made in some sweat shop in China and are direct rip offs of the designer ones. I love to haggle with the street vendors. However, I never try to pass it off as anything other then what it really is. If someone comments on my “Kate Spade” bag, I tell them I got if for $10 on my last trip to NYC, or my “Movado” I got for $20 next to a T sation in Boston. I don’t even lie about my hair color (you like it? just head for my favorite salon on south 1st street and ask for Naomi).

I used to be with the anti-designer people.

Then my fiancee bought herself a Coach bag. It has a couple of very distinct advantages.

First, it is extremely high quality. I looked at the stitching and all of that, and I don’t think a hand grenade would get the damn thing to fall apart.

Second, because we don’t have a lot of money, she could only afford to spend $300, after tax, on the purse. This means she has a smaller purse now, and thus less junk! When she says, “Hand me my chapstick”, I only have to dig for about 10 seconds, as opposed to 10 minutes to find it for her!

Just out of curiousity, how good are these knockoffs. My wife likes Coach leather goods, and while the prices are absurd I’m impressed that everything seems lock-stitched, the cuts, scarving and seams are perfect and the leather seems to consistently be quality stuff that will last for years.

Even without the logo, couldn’t someone tell that a ‘Goach’ isn’t a Coach just by looking at the bag.
