Yeah, that’s how it starts . . . Don’t you get it?! In five years you’ll be eating peameal burritos! And the French Canadians will have to be real Catholics!
Would you like to wager on that?
LOL! Yes, the Francophones will have to tone down the roadside strip clubs/gas stations every quarter mile along the St. Lawrence
Peameal burrito’s??? I have never thought about that. I recently chided a female East Indian/Canadian coworker about the missed opportunty of creating a ‘butter-chicken’ pizza…something I honestly joked about with her (to serve my city’s huge Indian population outside Toronto) about a year ago…and now is a real item on every pizza joint’s menu here…peameal burrito’s could be my ticket to superstardom
No. Just a guess.
It’s the Merchant Marine Act of 1920, more commonly called the Jones act. Basically, ships travelling between US ports have to be US built, US owned, and have a US crew.
Indeed. That Act was one reason why Mr. Obama had to hinder offers from other entities during the long-lasting BP Oil Disaster. His predecessor waived the Act during Katrina for efficiency, but perhaps had less emotional attachment to the Jones Act than Obama.
“America needs a strong and vibrant U.S.-Flag Merchant Marine. That is why you … can continue to count on me to support the Jones Act (which also includes the Passenger Vessel Services Act) and the continued exclusion of maritime services in international trade agreements.” Barack Obama, August 28, 2008 Wiki.
Guess again.
Really??? It is truly easy to point the finger of blame elsewhere. Illegal drugs are used in America therefore the US is to blame for the problems in Mexico…that is your defense. Americans heads have already rolled, numerous innocent Americans have fallen victim to the narco violence in the border states.
This is not the first time this has been mentioned, your inept and seemingly powerless president even had the gall to spew this bile laden garbage while on a trip here last spring.
If the mexican government and police/military forces can’t cope with their own problems I am sure I could round up an American militia that could go down below and help eradicate the problem. El gusto es mio.
Yes I’m sure you could. Will you be bringing John Wayne back from the dead to lead the charge?
Your country has spent hundreds of billions of dollars “cleaning up” Iraq with several hunderd thousand dead Iraqis to show for it.
Memo for time-machine project: Be sure to get them to annex entire country in 1848.
Sure, get right on that. Militia in the US generally means redneck nutjobs.
Not The Duke, but Ronnie may lead the charge.
We aren’t to blame for all the dead Iraqis.
Amen brother! I would append that to add well armed “redneck nutjobs.”
That was debated back then. It was decided you didn’t want to incorporate so many mongrels and uncivilized heathens into your white man’s world.
The theme was “the most land and the least Mexicans”.
You guys have always been such sweethearts.
Yeah, send them down amigo. But don’t cry when they get torn to shreds.
You know you keep coming back to this uncivilized, unwashed heathen thing but I don’t think you realize how Americans feel about Latinos. They’re everywhere. You can’t swing a piñata stick without hitting someone with an “ez” on the end of their name. They are us.
All that valuable land in the north? The land we “stole?” Maybe if Mexico would build some of its nice safe modern big cities up there Americans wouldn’t think stepping across the border is liking taking a time-machine back to the lawless old west.
Yes you are.
Excellent retort.
Well tell me how they feel then if I am so mistaken.
Are hispanics thought of as equals? Is hispanic culture thought of favorably?
Doubtful. Seems we could just offer them a bribe to stop fighting. Works for your own countrymen, not sure why it wouldn’t work for us.
You have really turned this thread into something better placed in the Pit, imo, but I just wanted to make a few points.
Since you are so angry about a war that happened 150 years ago, surely you would have no problem going just a bit further back, and ceding huge swathes of land to the Native population… at least those of them that weren’t wiped out in genocidal “annexation” and “civilizing”.
Your ancestors = my ancestors, just with different names. To assume otherwise is willful ignorance on your part.
Yes, the US contributes in a way to the problems of the semi-failed narco-state you are almost living in. A much MUCH bigger problem is the collapse of Rule of Law in entire cities and areas of your country. Not a lot of it, and certainly nowhere your upper class self would go, I’m sure.
If an armed gang attacked a police station, even if they did it as a hit and run and got away, IMMENSE resources would be brought to bear on them, until those responsible were in jail or dead.
That does appear to happen in places in Mexico, due to a corrupt government.
You have yet to address how cops, judges, politicians and others who gladly take narco money and don’t enforce the Law are America’s fault.
Some are. I have had many friends that were Hispanic or Latino.
And yes, there are many aspects of Hispanic culture that are revered and respected (and, because we’re the US, co-opted… cinco de Mayo for one comes to mind).
It is a beautiful and rich culture, with a fascinating history, and the products of that culture are having an impact on “American Culture” at an ever increasing pace.
But drug-running warlords and corruption is not thought of favorably, and that seems to be part and parcel with the Hispanic culture.
