Technically, my Mom’s cat, but we all live together. Charlie, a wonderful Big Orange Cat, who was rescued from a box 15 some years ago at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico with his equally beautiful, if psychotic sister Jennie,
is currently at a kitty eye specialist possibly getting an eye removed because of a detached lens .
What happened to him? He came down with an apparent eye problem the other day. His eyelid didn’t want to open. I soothed it with a warm washcloth, and it seemed better. But yesterday he looked bad again, so the wife took him to the vet, and now he’s at this eye specialist.
They gave us an option of expensive surgery to try to save it, but only forecast a 30-40% chance of success, with a great deal of discomfort. Not very good for a 15 year-old kitty. So the poor guy may be losing an eye.
He doesn’t fight or even interact with our other cats or dog. He’s mellow and old, and only goes out in the backyard for maybe 5 minutes at a time to walk down to the gate to make sure the street is still there. They’re doing blood tests and stuff to see if there is some other issues we need to deal with, and hopefully not affect the other eye.
He’s my mom’s big baby, and this is going to be tough on her. The medical issues are being dealt with by professionals. But I’m just trying to understand. How did this happen? What do I have to be scared of.
