What the heck is a "Bund view" room?

Anyone?

Astrogirl is involved in making some hotel reservations for her company, and called me to ask what “Bund view room” means… Heck if I know!

I googled it, and got a few links, but none explained what the term meant (that I could see, anyways).

Anyone know?

Is it a hotel in Shanghai?

The Bund is a neighborhood in that city that is supposedly quite scenic.

It appears to be a room that has a view of the river named Bund.

I can just imagine, Astrogirl misheard the person on the telephone and in fact was being asked if they wanted a room where they could have a window over the Bundt cake factory!

I didn’t know where the hotel was… so I called Astrogirl.

Shanghai it is!

Spot on elmwood! Thank you much!

Astrogirl is happy…

five minutes from the original question to the answer…

I love the SDMB!

They have Bundt cake in Shanghai? Wow!

More to the point: do they have Singapore Slings to go with the Bundt Cake?

The 2nd poster is correct. The Bund is the waterfront main road in Shanghai (relic of the time when Shanghai was dominated by Westerners). And a Bund view room is simply a room with a view of it.

Under Major Feelgud’s name, it should read “Location: Why, the Bund Room, you silly oaf!”

As per other posters, the river’s not named Bund; the waterfront is.

Something to be aware of, if this matters to your reservation: the Bund itself is old and relatively low-rise. There is at least one old, charming hotel (the Peace Hotel) on it. I suggest grabbing a drink in the hotel bar to feel like you’ve stepped into an Indiana Jones movie.

Most likely, though, “Bund view” means ACROSS the river in one of the 850-story new hotel / office complex towers, which will provide a nice view of the Bund through binoculars.
