Okay, how the hell many new posters have surfaced and then vanished in the past week or so? Bigguns, Dingus, the many faces of Contestant #3, who has now, I believe, resurfaced as 1stRunnerUp. Go see the “Confessions” thread, and see what I mean. I have no fucking clue who anybody is anymore! Pick one username and STICK WITH IT!!!
Modest? You bet I’m modest! I am the queen of modesty!
I offer my word, for what it’s worth, that I have never, nor will never, use another screen name on the SD. I pondered it while reading Satan’s Arse-Reaming post, but didn’t. What you see is what you get with Babs.
My ass has been dragged here there and everywhere, but I am not going to dump my moniker again. I had to chainge it once when I moved cities and I could not get into my username no more.
Just a bunch of puss losers, afraid to stand up for what they feel like saying at that given occasion. Thoroughly contemptible, and lacking any sense of respect for the rest of us. Yet what is the cure of this phenomenon? Someday the net as a whole will find a way to circumvent juvenile and destructive behavior cloaked behind anonymity.
& Then there’s “Fantastic User”, who as C#3 has been banned but whose inner nature reveals itself more and more with each passing day. Before long he will be operating in the wide open. Tick tick “Fantastic User”, we will see you banned also, I think … but doubtless you have half a dozen other names in the hopper. Some people just can’t understand the concept of “not welcome”, and you are their poster boy in these parts.
Well, so far, I’ve always been me. No one has tried to steal my name nor have I ever nor will I ever post under another name. I think if you do you are a chicken shit unable to stand up for yourself and what you say. If that flames you than hey, if the shoe fits up your butt than so be it!
I doubt very highly that ANYONE would want my user name. And everyone knows who I AM< AND EVERYONE KNOWS MY OPINIONS< AND EVERYONE KNOWS HOW I like to state them.
I know a lot of people dig the anonymity on the net, but to me, if you can’t say who you are (to an extent), your opinions mean far less to me than someone who has no problem saying who they are.
Byz and Satan: exactly. It’s like writing an anonymous troll-like opinion in a newspaper.
Ofcourse the Internet afords privacy. Know one here knows ones true name, address, or phone number, unless the info is voluntarily given out.
The only way you are known on a board is by your posts. Throwing up another name becuase you don’t have the courage to post under your own is just chickenshit.
I think there are certain instances where one might not be admonished for adopting a nom de plume. Certain things might just be too embarrasing to say under your own name (and heck, you might not want to know things like that about certain posters!) Of course, then the faked handle gets dragged into threads such as this one to defend the choice without giving away the secret.
I have the handle “Vinnie” on this MB. I’ve dragged it out twice. On the old AOL SDMB, I frequently channeled “my cousing Vinnie” and a lot of people apparently enjoyed hearing about him, and weren’t above poking fun of him too. It’s a running gag, and the old regs know him.
I’d probably post as Vinnie a lot more if I weren’t a moderator, but I don’t want people accusing me of misusing my powers. Any more than they already accuse me of this, that is.
Gee Satan, after all the butt stuff between us, I can’t believe you didn’t mention that butt thing in my post. You ARE a stronger man than I! (Just a joke, K?)
Degen – out here a non de plume is just an excuse. To say something you don’t have the balls to back up under your “regular” name.
You ALREADY have a non de plume! I’ve noticed some folks using them to get themselves :o into an argument. Come on! How many posters have, under a different name, attacked THEMSELVES just to get some attention! Seems to me this is really, really LAME!
I’m not saying YOU’VE done it but plenty of folks have. It’s silly. Stupid. Ridiculous. Like a four year old throwing a tantrum to get attention.
Maybe we don’t know we’re posting as different people.
Why the hell am I posting in the 1st person plural?
It is by the fortune of God that, in this country, we have three benefits: freedom of speech, freedom of thought, and the wisdom never to use either.
