What The Hell Is Your Problem??

:D:D:D - I’m going to use that, if I may

Rheumatoid arthritis and a hiatal hernia. Both of which are very well controlled by medication.

Susan

I used to have endometriosis and adenomyosis, but I got all of that taken care of. It ate up about seven years though.

And I’m also an addict.

Rockin’ pneumonia and the boogie-woogie flu. Also, heavy metal toxicity and an artificial hip-hop.

Folliculitis.

If you know what psoriasis looks like, imagine your entire scalp being covered with it.

It’s not fun.

I also have a hiatal hernia (the flap in my stomach doesn’t close properly so I get acid reflux) which I am fortunately able to control through diet.

I have to say, we’re all in pretty good company. IRL, I am surrounded by reasonably healthy, active people who seem to have no afflictions of any type. Sometimes it makes me feel very isolated. I’m glad I have you Dopers.

I have loose joints. They don’t like to work as they should and they damage themselves. Then they swell and the ones that are close to nerves and blood vessels scare the crap out of you when one limb goes completely cold and numb. Or when your ear hurts because your jaw doesn’t line up. PT was my friend for about a year.

I have some sort of breathing thing. I know what it isn’t (asthma, allergies, infection, anemia, misshapen nasal passages or sinuses) but not what it is. I also had a doctor tell me that my head was “unremarkable” which made me laugh.

And I have a serious case of dumb. Today I wanted to make grilled cheese so I turned on the burner under my cast iron griddle. I thought to myself “I wonder if the empty pan on the front burner is getting too warm” so i put my hand over it. It felt warm, so I said to myself “you ought to remove that pan from the stove since you are getting it hot for no good reason” so I picked it up and moved it…by the rim of the pan. It was hot. It was really really hot. Because it was on a hot burner. Because I turned on the wrong burner. Now I have blisters on two fingers and a thumb.

Raynaud’s Syndrome (or disease-whichever is the least bad is the one I have-can never remember) at 14 to present day.

Hypothyroidism after the birth of my first child.

Vitiligo, ditto.

Granuloma aneularis–skin thingy. Ditto.
Tested over and over for Diabetes-so far, no go. Thank god.

Sciatica, left hip, upon occasion. Old injury–I was hit by a bicycle (long story).

Bone spur left heel–wear orthotics now. Running brought it out.

Varicose veins-thank you nursing and 3 kids!-support hose are sexy, no?
All that said, none of these conditions really impacts on my life except the vitiligo. That well and truly sucks and that I would change, if I could.

Not enough eye problems here, only a couple on the previous page.

I received a torn and detached retina from a car airbag a year and a half ago; the intial laser reattachment only lasted about 4 1/2 months. We scheduled a surgical reattachment for May of 2005 when it was apparent that my vision was going. (I was seeing stars, flashes, afterglows of things that weren’t there, as well as floaters large enough that I’d have to stop what I was doing in order to let them pass.) But that had to be moved up when I began going blind in the eye the week of my father’s funeral.

Even though the retina was reattacthed, there’s a warp to it, as well as a blind spot in the center of my vision. That hardly matters, though, because there’s also a bit of muscle damage which results in my having diplopia (double vision). And one of the side effects of the surgery (a vitrialectomy) is an increased risk of cataracts. And my surgeon tells me there’s one growing now.

Did I mention that I’m a professional photographer?

I wear hearing aids. Since I was 3.

So, if I don’t hear you, TYPE LOUDER!

I’ve got TMJD and keratosis pilaris

Neither life-threatening, just annoying.

And I’m really really fat. Completely opposite of Hal, but I probably don’t struggle as much.

My sister! I have that too, for completely unfathomable reasons. It’s not bothersome, but I look like a pink and white palomino pony.

As for the other stuff, I’m beyond morbidly obese into the realm of “superobese.” Hence the gastric bypass two months ago. Plus depressed, but under control (thanks, Welbutrin!).

Other than that, I thank Waheguruji everything else is working relatively normally for a middle-aged couch potato.

I dislocated my knee standing still five years ago, and it’s still not very strong. The cartilage gets stuck in the kneecap and sometimes I can’t straighten my leg.

Re-occuring bad-ish insomnia.

Eczema.

Close to legally blind.

I’m balding and I have eczema, but that is about as bad as it gets, other than the occaisional bouts of depression.

Is Graves uncurable? There was a period in the early to mid 1990’s when I thought I had a tapeworm. No matter how much I ate or how little I exercised I was losing weight like a motherfucker.

Another Fibromyalgia here. Fortunately, I haven’t had a major pain flare for several months, just the usual small aches and pains and swollen fingers, headaches, and occasional IBS.

I also have TMJ syndrome and I had a growth removed from my tongue in September which was benign but is recurring already because my teeth still rub on my tongue on that side. Both my ENT and dentist said no need to worry about the teeth right away because it probably wouldn’t come back as they had actually shaved off part of my tongue so it shouldn’t rub anymore.

I have lots of allergies and some chemical sensitivites. I had an abnormal pap smear last year and they couldn’t find any reason for it so I just have to keep getting 6 month checks for while. I have borderline high cholesterol and GERD.

My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s this past year and my paternal grandmother had dementia, most likely Alzheimers so I probably have that to look forward to as well.

My mom had those too, also well-controlled by medication. The doctors “stretched” her esophagus once, but it didn’t help much. She was really careful about what she ate, and everyone in the family knew the Heimlich (sp).

I have mild COPD/emphysema, and osteoporosis that resulted in a broken hip last spring. I really shouldn’t be smoking. :smack: I feel pretty good for 60 though. (60’s not “old” anymore, is it?)

Keratoconus, a corneal disease where the cornea bulges outward. First diagnosed when I was in my early twenties and I’ve managed with rigid gas permeable lenses since then. It’s gotten quite bad in the last year, and I’m pretty much in the state described in the last paragraph of the link, where corneal transplant is the only option, and what I’m going in for soon.

That, and my sense of rhythm was removed surgically when I was 3. Or that’s my excuse, anyway.

Severe myopia, which has lead to retinal tears in the last few years. (Tears like rips, not like crying, though they make me feel like crying sometimes.)

PMS to a marked degree.

Grew out of depression and migraines as my twenties wore on. That was just luck.

Obes… Gah, I hate that word. Let’s just say, I’m fighting the flab and have been all my life. It sucks.

I was diagnosed with Osgood Schlatter when I was about 10. It was painful while I was growing but no problem for many years. You are the first person I’ve ever known who actually has this. I only have it in one knee.
