What thing in your life are you happiest about right now, at the beginning of 2009?

It’s hard as hell, but I am still happy to be in my grad program. I spent years in unfulfilling monotonous office jobs, trying to figure out what I’d rather be doing. When I figured it out, I realized it was going to take some serious sacrifice, and started in on it. I was twenty-five at the time. I’m now thirty, but I went from a dead end job that a trained gorilla could do to being a student in one of the top graduate programs in my field. It’s a lot of work, but I’m approximately a million times happier than I was back then.

Hey, good for you! I admit I live somewhat vicariously through your posts since I miss my hometown so much. I will be starting grad school this fall at age 26. May I ask what program you’re in?

I’m happiest that the little blonde with the huge blue eyes I was handed 8 years ago is growing up to be the funniest, cleverest, most beautiful, and most cunning little witch imaginable. She’s already read all of Harry Potter, and all of Lord Of The Rings, and she outmanoeuvres her 18 year old brother on a regular basis.

That,and that the 18 year old brother has decided he wants to study “Classics” (Roman and Greek language,culture and literature) in Trinity College Dublin when he goes to college. Granted, I wouldn’t recommend it from an employability perspective, but he’s interested in it and he’s working to achieve it. (He can always do a masters in something useful).
