My favorite thing to do in Indianapolis is visit the Lucas Oil Raceway. But you’ll have to check the schedule to see if anything interesting will be happening there on the day you’re free.
If you liked Hoosiers then Hinkle Fieldhouse on the campus of Butler University is the must-see. That’s where Plump made his Last Shot and where the climax of Hoosiers was filmed.
Broad Ripple is a great place to go anyway, though. As is the Children’s Museum which was mentioned above.
Neither one is close to downtown. Downtown Indy is pretty lame. The interesting places are… thats right, a long Uber trip away.
Also, i didnt see that the OP was staying downtown… i figured he was in one of the “usual places” along the I-465 beltway where, as i mentioned above, you have to drive just to get a loaf of bread or a sandwich or a beer or anything.
Not really sure what there is in Broad Ripple that he’s not going to find downtown on Massachusetts Ave. or Fountain Square. Bars, restaurants and little shops are plentiful downtown.
All very helpful. Thanks! Again, car rental is unlikely (especially since I may still be prohibited from driving in Indiana…but that’s another thread). Sounds like I may be visiting a motor sports museum.
