The family is traveling to Las Vegas for a few days next month. My wife is having a meeting otherwise I don’t think we’d be going. So for three days I will have the baby, she’ll be 15 months, to do whatever. I don’t know much about the area since I haven’t been there in years, and then I only stayed for a day.
So what kinds of things are there to do for a father and his girl? She seems to love animals, so a zoo or petting zoo would be great. I’m sure she’ll like any of the museums for kids if they have something like that.
Also what kinds of places are 2-5 hours away? We will be in the area for ten days, but we are coming and going out of Long Beach. We don’t really know how she’ll do in the car, but we’d like to see some national parks in the area if we can.
We might be able to do a mini dopefest if there are people around as well.
My friend lives in Vegas and we’ve taken her baby out since he was a month or so old. I actually can’t wait until a bit older so we can take him to see more stuff!
There are lots of super neat animal exhibits to check out- at the Mirage there is the Secret Garden of Siegfried and Roy which has lots of white lions and such (as well as dolphins, actually). The Mandalay has a neat shark reef, too.
At night there is a Pirate show outside the Treasure Island, as well as a volcano that explodes every 15 minutes or something outside the Mirage. She might like both of those for the bright lights and such.
The Hoover Dam isn’t too far off, but I’m not sure how exciting for a kid that would be (maybe a more mom and dad sort of affair, where she’s dragged along).
I’m sure others will pop in with more suggestions.
Except I’m the world’s worst gambler so I think I might end up losing her and my next born as well. I’m not sure I’d ever make it out of Vegas alive. However, which places will take the little one as collateral?
I was just there two weeks ago. I’m pretty sure the most popular activity for those with infants is to put them into a stroller and push the stroller into my shins. Or into my heels from behind.
With older toddlers that can walk, encouraging them to walk around, spinning, and swinging their arms at just the right height to hit a tall man in the privates seems to be the amusement of choice.
Seriously, the Secret Garden at the Mirage was pretty cool.
There are several city parks - I don’t know which ones have got the cool playground equipment, but Red Rock Park (exact name?) might be a good place for outdoor activity. Forget Hoover Dam, maybe, but there’s also Lake Meade itself, good for some water fun - as well as the swimming pools at every hotel (weather permitting, which it should be, sort of, this time of year).
This could be your chance to visit the Liberace Museum, if you’ve ever had the supressed curiosity to do so. The kid won’t appreciate who Liberace was, but will maybe enjoy the sparkle sparkle. There’s a famous chocolate factory in town - Ethel M’s?
