What to do in Memphis, TN?

Lots of good suggestions. My favorite for ribs is Blues City Cafe (on Beale). We would go eat about 6-7 pm, then walk Beale for an hour or two. Not as many drunks earlier in the evening.

Gus’s (Front St) has great chicken.

I enjoyed Graceland a lot more than I thought I would. The Gibson factory is very cool.

One thing to know about Graceland is that it is a for-profit operation. Depending on whether you go for the full or partial tour, tickets cost $33 or $37 per person.

I had one of the most memorable and fun nights of my life enjoying various blues joints on Beale Street. I was there on Thanksgiving weekend so it was not too crowded.

I’m also more of a burger connoisseur than a bbq fan, so the burger I had at Dyer’s was a little piece of greasy heaven.

Elmwood Cemetery if you’re into this kind of history. It really is beautiful.

We went last year to Memphis. Yankees here. We did the Cotton Museum. My husband and I thought it was interesting and spent about an hour there. The kids (17, 16, 12) thought it very dull. There’s not enough to do to spend a huge amount of time.

Ate at Neely’s; thought it was great.

My favorite destinations: the Civil Rights Museum and the zoo. Both were excellent. My husband’s favorite: Sun Studios. I think he would have loved Graceland, too, but he refused to pay the entry fees for us to go. I’ve been in years past, and it was interesting - I was glad I’d gotten the chance to see it.

We also went to the tiny WC Handy House museum. Spent about half an hour there, had a totally individual tour (it’s only two rooms so doesn’t take long), and heard all kinds of things and saw many WC artifacts. Either free or low donation - if you’ve got an extra half-hour, try it.

We also went to the Rock & Soul Museum. My husband and I enjoyed it a lot, especially since you can play music samples to coordinate with each era. The kids liked the first half hour or so, and then they’d pretty much had enough. Lots of artifacts and things.

We went to see the Peabody ducks. Cute but very, very crowded.

Enjoy your trip!
