Sell it to Tom Hanks. He collects typewriters.
I collect typewriters. Many times, people list older models on craigslist for hundreds of dollars after looking at that link and a few other stores like it. The thing is, those offered there have been completely refurnished, with all the paint touched up and all the parts oiled and fixed and in working order. They are show pieces for someone’s fancy library. On the other hand, L. C. Smith typewriters that work but are in average shape go on ebay for somewhere between $40 and $150, depending on the model. The keys, however, will go for around $60 almost every time.
I never buy a typewriter for more than $20, and I have some very pretty portable manual machines (my preference over table models, which are larger and harder to display). I use mine for all kinds of typing, from making my own letterhead to zine work. Good luck with yours. Don’t just ditch it - someone wants it.
I think some theater companies might be interested in it as a prop.
