I’ve posted to this thread twice. Why am I still not subscribed?
Have to go back to the airport tonight to pick up Complicated Roommate. Going to kill WOWCrack Roommate if he doesn’t stop letting his alarm phone ring through every tone he has in the mornings. Head is full of Puerto Rican literary criticism right now. Trying low-rise socks today, will see if I like them better than traditional type.
Yeah, I know - I’m on my OPT for my MA right now. But yeah, with a PhD my job situation would be a lot more stable, I think.
Special1, my parents would never ask me to stay at home at the cost of not doing my PhD. And if my situation here was stable they wouldn’t have asked me to come back in the first place anyway.
Hey guys! I’ve been in comunicato these past few days- crazy, crazy times at home! We just switched my daughter’s school somewhat unexpectedly and it’s been nuts getting everything ready!
Nice OP- my son’s 7th grade s going to DC soon for 4 days- they have a terrific and busy itinerary planned.
How’s everyone been?? and thanks to Nooner for checking up on me
OK- gotta settle in and read three pages- it’s only Tuesday!
I got nuttin today. Feel better, sickies. Congrats on the pending gradidatin, rigs. Good news on the 'rents, kai. beebs, heh, kinda threw you right off ever getting nipple rings, huh? Appropriate other comments as dictated by prior posts.
OK- caught up- Hi Haze! Do you know what PhD program you’ll be in yet- what are you interested in?
Grad school, as you know, is very intense- you are right you won’t be able to travel much. Tough choice, but it’s nice to know you have a fall back plan if the Visa situation doesn’t improve- that’s a comfort.
Off to the library soon. Someday I’ll tell all of you about my surreal meeting with my faculty advisor, but not now.
Also, Daughter is heading down to Springfield for some damned reason (escapes me at the moment)-something for a class; something about politics/government. I dunno. Anyhoo, she goes tomorrow and comes back on Friday. Make that she goes down on Thursday and comes back on Friday. Maybe she got all of my brains when I gave birth?
Hi, all. I’ve been here, just kinda reading; not much in my life to report, so rather than bore you with inconsequentialities, as I usually do, I just read.
Tea is gorgeous, kai! Sorry you still feel awful, Pie – good luck getting scheduled for the ultrasound. Yay on your impending graduation, rigs! Why did you have to change your daughter’s school so suddenly, Prof. Rapunzel? Moving back home can definitely make you crazy, Haze – I did it when snowbunny was three years old for a few months while her dad was in Air Force officer training. I survived fairly intact, but to this day snowbunny won’t eat if people fuss at her to eat, thanks to my father annoying her every night at dinner. But if it’s what you need to do, then we’ll be here for you! And who knows, maybe Papa Tigs can get another job in Japan and then we’ll be able to visit you. And other hugs, yays, or boos as appropriate for anyone I forgot.
I had zero work to do yesterday, by design, so spent the day puttering – or at least part of it; Papa Tigs came home early, not feeling well, so I didn’t want to bother him with the noise I would have made with everything I had planned to do, so I only got part of it done. But that’s okay, at least I got a start on several things around the house that needed doing. I need to finish the laundry today (the laundry room shares a wall with the master bedroom so the dryer buzzing would have woken him up while he was napping), clean the master bathroom (again: napping), and finish cleaning my office, which frankly I just ran out of energy to do, not to mention ambition. But at least I did clean up the dog crap in the yard – I swear, these two have a greater output than input! I don’t know how big dogs can produce such huge piles, but produce they do. It’ll be lawn-mowing season soon, so we can’t let it go quite as much as we have over the winter.
Back to wasting my morning playing mindless games. And contemplating finishing yesterday’s uncompleted housework.
What a difference a day makes. Yesterday was gorgeous and bumping double-digits in the Celsius range. Today, it plunged back down into the negatives and there’s ice on the pathways by my building which makes it treacherous to walk using anything more than ginger, carefully-placed footsteps. Even then I damn near slipped a few times. This would be a good time to slap on some cleats.
Still running a sleep deficit here, and I could really go for a nap or three. Or another coffee. Coffee would be nice. Another week’s vacation would be even nicer.
Beebs - If pee is the lure, what are you using for a fishing ro-- ohhh. Oh. Oh! Ow. Dude, that’s hardcore. ::insert master baiter joke here::
Special1 - I think it’s simply the fact that Israel is in the middle-east (oh noes! Middle-east is bad!), and then you’ve got that whole Gaza strip thing, Palestinians fighting Hamas insurgents, and generally a lot of FUD articles in the news about hostilities in the region which has been going on for decades. Taken as a whole, and in a very general sense, it can give one the impression that Israel isn’t a very safe place to be, not really realizing that whatever’s going on is pretty well localized, and that major cities like Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem don’t really have anything to worry about. (Occasionally, maybe, but on the whole it’s probably less of a concern than being mugged in a Bronx subway…) It’s kinda like being worried about visiting California because of the chance of hurricanes in Florida. I think a lot of people think this way though because it’s such a long way away that no one really has cause to think too closely about it, and when they’re suddenly called upon to do so, all that generic “Middle-east! Hamas! Gaza city!” stuff floods in because that’s all you ever really hear about in the mainstream media relating to Israel.
Yay! Rapunzel’s back!! We missed you… Sorry about all the craziness on the home front!
**Lili **-- doesn’t have to be Vodka. Whatever happens to be your poison of choice! Vodka is a good choice, though
**Mork **-- I know all that. Still aggravates me.
**Haze **-- sounds like your parents are at least somewhat more liberal than you’ve been letting on. This is a good thing I’m glad you have a fallback plan in case the visa situation isn’t resolved.
So, what does it mean that last night I dreamt that The Boy and I were living in a lakefront condo, and that a fighter jet swoops up to the window and shoots up the place, but he refuses to believe me when I try to explain the damage? (it was a very swank pad pre-destruction, BTW… my dream self has mad decorating skillz, apparently)
Lots of plane references in dream interpretation, but nothing about fighter jets strafing your home, surprisingly enough.
LiLi, I would suggest morphine or other opiates. Might as well start him off on the hard stuff… much more effective in terms of forming a lifetime habit.
