What to to with VHS tapes?

We kept our Disney VHS tapes for our grandkids to use, along with a cheap TV-VHS combo. Put the tape in and it automatically plays. We have a nephew with severe autism who can only handle watching tapes, not DVDs. You might ask daycares, children hospitals, churches or group homes if they could use tapes.

Sorry, but you can’t get rid of them until you check all 200 tapes to see if she managed to record the alternate ending to Big.

Nailed it!

In 2005?-- 2007? I bought tons of VHS tapes – they were $1 each. Gradually I threw them all away. My VHS player disappeared in 2011?

Strange. In my area they were all sold out by '10? or '11?

VHS tapes will be at yard sales/2nd hand stores for our entire lives. I still see 8-track tapes and records for sale. People put these things in boxes in their attics, then pass away. Then there is an estate sale or things are donated to charity.

Anyway I see VHS tapes frequently.

My mother was a classic movie buff so I’ve inherited maybe close to 200 VHS tapes, some of which are in the original wrapped packaging (complete works of Shirley Temple, anybody?) A surefire way of calming her sundowning was playing one of the tapes, preferably a movie she could still recall like * Casablanca* even though she could no longer follow the story.

We got rid of the player when we got our smart TV. The tapes are scattered between her bedroom and the den.

I’d love to get rid of them. I’m not a big movie watcher. My husband thinks it’s sacrilegious not to transfer all of them to DVD. I told him he’s welcome to do it. Needless to say, the tapes are still sitting there.

Definitely. The yers 2006? – 2008? was a huge VHS sellout in many now bankrupt video store – like BlockBuster.

Wow! But can it play from the start immediately or do I have to wait a bit for it to rewind? What if I want to watch from a specific “chapter”?

Not meaning to derail the VHS tape thread, but this comment caught my eye:

Going by the standard definitions of “racist” and “classist”, what specific examples of these did you find in the film?
