Elvis, baby! “Heartbreak Hotel” (June 2, 1956).
1956 … “The Wayward Wind” by Gogi Grant
Mr. K’s was 1945 … “On the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe” by Johnny Mercer
I know his better than mine.
Kid Kalhoun’s was: 1976 … “Tonight’s the Night (Gonna Be Alright)” by Rod Stewart
That’s disappointing.
Back in my cover band days (those carefree days before disco ruled) we played it.
It has that farfisia mini-compact organ sound (imortalized now as 60’s organ on new synth keyboards)
[Ads Galore, but I don’t think anything dangerous warning]

“The Streak” by Ray Stevens. Never heard of it…apparently it is about streaking?!?!
I didn’t even need the link; I knew the answer.
There’s a crazy little shack beyond the tracks
And everybody calls it the sugar shack
Well, it’s just a coffeehouse and it’s made out of wood
Expresso coffee tastes mighty good
Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs - “The Sugar Shack”
I was born during the Dark Years, between Big Band and Rock ‘n’ Roll – and it shows in my song:
The Song from Moulin Rouge (Where Is Your Heart) by Percy Faith
That would be the *original * Moulin Rouge, with Jose Ferrer as Toulouse-Lautrec.
That was also #1 the day JFK was shot, right?
Oh, that’s a good song.
Mine is Ode to Billy Joe
Well, that’s a bit frightening.
“Fallin’” by Alicia Keyes was Number 1 on Sept 11, 2001.
That red-letter day in history, February 10, 1973 gave us:
“Crocodile Rock” by Elton John
Tell me about it. I got “He Don’t Love You (Like I Love You)” by Tony Orlando & Dawn.
May 10, 1975.
I come from a land down under…
“Honey” by Bobby Goldsboro.
Don’t think I know that one.
“Le Freak” by Chic
Born at the height of disco.
How strange this thread came up, as I just bought a book of Billboard charts from the '80s and looking this same thing up. It turns out it was a song I never heard of…Crazy for You perfomed by Madonna(5/8/85). The week before that it was one I have heard of- We Are the World (which Madonna dropped down to number 2).
For my mother (4/30/56), it’s Heartbreak Hotel. It’s hard to wrap my head around that…60 years ago, Elvis was just getting started, and my mom was born. And neither Elvis nor my mother seem that old. Time is crazier than you think.
You were born the year I graduated high school!
Be glad. Be very, very glad.
My mind’s in a weird place…1956 was 50 years ago, not 60. Still, that’s amazing. And I’m 20. Where does the time go?
“I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor. Seems I have.
