What TV show from when you were a kid...

I’m almost ashamed to admit this, but my favorite show as a child was Hart to Hart. It was one of those shows I wasn’t allowed to watch so it was a special treat to sneak in after my pawpaw had fallen asleep on the sofa and catch as much as I could.
I was sure when I grew up I’d be so fashionably beautiful like Stefanie Powers and I’d marry a guy like Robert Wagner and we’d go on many adventures!

I just saw the intro and I have a feeling I would not enjoy it now.

I thought I’d be the only one to remember that episode of Johnny Quest. The monster was made of electricity, right? And they lured it to it’s doom with a series of light bulbs flashing on and off? Freaked me right out, I can’t ever remember a cartoon doing that before, even way back at that age for me.

Sounds as if we have enough Dopers for a good therapy group though.

Seeing as how I just watched it, it was made of molecular energy. And they did indeed lure it to its doom with a series of lights.

BTW, Icerigger’s link’s owner has every full original Jonny Quest episode, including the movies. It’s only been up for two days or so, and traditionally these links get taken down quickly, so get 'em while they’re live!

:: off to watch Jonny Quest vs the Cyber Insects ::

When I was a sixth grader I was obsessed with Land of the Lost, though even then I didn’t like the human characters and would mentally replace them with better chararacters. I put it on my Netflix queue, but I’m scared to watch it, for fear it will be awful.

Di you hear that someone was making a live action re-make with Will Farell? Fortunately the idea was quickly shelved and the person who thought of it is now getting the treatment he needs at an exclusive private sanitorium. (I refuse to believe otherwise. Any trailers or ads I see are just cautionary warnings about what a bad idea this is.)

Friend carniverousplant:

I didn’t think anyone but me would remember that one (1962-63)

I saw a few years ago on some ‘looking-back’ TV show, a scene from 'Medical Center ’ (I NEVER missed an episode, crush on Chad Everett, etc.). All that HAIR! The emegency room set was Ed Wood bad, I think there was a lamp and a gurney in a white room. How primitive, and dated! I did love the medical shows, though, Dr. Kildare and Ben Casey, and to this day I try to never miss an episode of any medical show.

Mr. Salinqmind and I got a DVD of ‘Supercar’ for old times sake and couldn’t make it through one episode. What were we thinking, as kids?? Black and white, dull, yet creepy, it was like watching a transmission from the moon.

I wonder whatever happened to that show about the mail order brides brought to Seattle after the Civil War. Love to see how that show aged.

OK, that was terrible.

RE main on course…RE main on course…RE main on course…

Daktari, an everyday tale of Lions and them what loved em’.

Oooh I forgot that one. I’d see it again.

We have a standing order in our house: shoot on sight, let die, do not revive,

for any person who lets the TV ever again stop on a station showing MASH.

Actually, I just went and watched it again (thanx to whoever put up the link), and didn’t even feel the slightest twinge of fear. Hell, I was actually sorry for the poor bugger (even if it did kill 2 people)-it is called into existence through no fault of its own, goes here and there trying to survive, and then gets fried into atoms. I probably shouldn’t expect a “Horta” moment from a 35 year old kid’s show, but the damned thing probably deserved better.

I complement you, Sir.

The Man from Atlantis. I actually downloaded the pilot a few years ago, to refresh my memory. It was kind of … painful, but in one of those queasy ways where you sort of want to see more anyway.

The Greatest American Hero is that way, too. Painful now, but kind of more-ish.

My favorite TV show as an adolescent was one that nobody remembers, because apparently nobody else watched at the time. It only lasted less than a season. It was called The New People and it was about a group of college-age kids stranded on a desert island and they had to try and get along even though they were all very different (sheltered blonde, Angry Black Man, laid-back hippie, jock, and so on). I loved that show, and only ever missed one episode and it was so traumatic that I still remember why I missed it, my dad made us go with him to see Easy Rider (he was into biker films and boy, that sure wasn’t what he expected, and no doubt he regretted bringing us along, but my brother and I loved it).

I still have such fond memories of The New People that I’m not sure I’d want to see it now. It couldn’t possibly live up to my memories. I’ve never seen an episode of Lost but I always wondered if the creators were New People fans. There was nothing supernatural in TNP though.

From earlier, The Monkees. I’ve seen YouTube clips and though the music holds up, I don’t think I’d appreciate the slapstick as much as I did back then.

I was going to come in here and mention that.

And speaking of Shazam, even though I watched “The Kid Super Power Hour with Shazam!” on a regular basis I honestly don’t really remember any of it. But I’d probably want to let it stay in the past.

I liked Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, but upon watching a little bit on YouTube, it hasn’t held up well. However, I watched a pilot for a 2001 effort to revive it, with Markie Post as an older, and burned out Electra Woman. That had potential.

OK, watching Kid Super Power Hour on YouTube is painful, so I’d say leave it in the past.
