What TV small town would you want to live in, and why?

I also want to live in Cicely, Alaska.
That makes four of us - think we can get a group rate for the moving van?

Actually, I did grow up in a dusty, flat, barren version of Mayberry and my father was one of three town policemen. And Ron Howard and I share a birthday (same age, too.) And sometimes, I’d give anything to go back there. Not just the place, which is only 60 miles from where Ilive now, but to that time.

Count me in.

I wouldn’t mind living in Pearl Bay (the setting for SeaChange). But I still want to get back to the city occasionally.

Eerie, Indiana.

No more Sci-Fi channel!

I’d like Smallville or Springfield

Yeah, but you get great pie.

I’d go for Hazzard- take up auto body repair and make a fortune.

Hooterville!

If it counts as a small town, I’d like to try the Boulder, Colorado of “Mork & Mindy”. It’s got some terrific qualities for a TV town:

  1. No murderers running amok, or indeed any violent felons, that I can recall.

  2. It’s a nice-looking college town, and college towns are usually fun places to live in. Plus, they’ve got skiiing and ice-skating, and probably some budget-priced [minor-league, college] ice hockey schedules.

  3. There’s a minimum of precious, cloying TV-show characters to have to deal with, and you can avoid them pretty effectively by just avoiding the music store. There is the eccentric OJ-Simpson-worshipping guy, but he’s harmless (and hangs out in the music store a lot). As for Mork from Ork, he’s also harmless… and this being the young-cokehead Robin Williams, he was actually funny!

The Hooterville of Petticoat Junction or the Hooterville of Green Acres?

The one with Sam Drucker’s general store nearby.

It was somewhat in jest, cause they are the same. But not really. Both had Sam’s and some characters in common, but the PJ Hooterville was played a lot straighter and you had the Bradley girls and the Cannonball crew. The GA Hooterville was much more surreal, to say the least. Both would be nice to live in but I’d enjoy the Green Acres version better.

Mayfield, just Mayfield. I wouldn’t know what state I lived in, but I could always pick up the phone and dial the Cleavers’ number, without looking in the phone book, and ask them. That’s what Ward and June always do.

Why Mayfield? I’m a sucker for the old-timey, pretend-state-of-affairs shows and I know me, Wally and the Beav would get along just great.

Eddie, not so much.

It’s a good thing you said TV and not movies because that might tempt me to put down " Stepford" and then Mrs. BD might find out and accuse me of being sick and demented and then it would just be a horrible day around here.

As was my answer.

Yeah but you’ve always got the county commissioner trying to rip you off and high-speed chases on every road in the county at some time or another.

But then there’s Daisy and the Boar’s Nest where all these big name country artists are pursuaded to play, so I guess it’s not so bad.

I’ll take first shift on the driving!

Either way, you’ve got to travel to Pixley just to see a movie (although I’m not sure if you have to go through Stankwell Falls and/or Crabwell Corners to get there).

As for me, I’d like Mayberry or Mayfield. Why? Because some very dear friends from my youth live there.

Neptune, California. Zip code 90909.

If the question were movies Pleasantville would be awesome! I mean, I dunno about you people LIVING in technicolor sounds AWESOME. Did I mention the awesome?

I think I need a nap…
