I thought it was an English garden but I don’t think that’s right.
It will be focused around lavender plants with primroses and sweet peas et al. with morning glory or boston ivy on a fence. I want a forgotten garden look with a stone path leading from the driveway to the fence (no gate) under a layer of dirt and an old fountain.
I’m pretty sure this style has a name and I want to research things like grass or mulch? flower options? spacing? etc.
I think the defining characteristic of cottage gardens is that they are crammed full of stuff. Every available bit of soil is planted. Cracks in stone walls have plants tumbling out of them. Walls and fences have wires or trellis attached for climbers - herbs, fruits and vegetables are placed amongst flowers.
