What types of humor do you not "get"?

Practical jokes in movies are hilarious. In real life, they suck.
But the one ‘genre’, if it is one, that I hate is the “Doesn’t Being Married Suck” schtick, ala Mr. Roper in Three’s Company or the entire run of Married With Children.

Well, I can think of at least one other thing that could follow when someone says that…

I don’t think I’ve ever laughed at a webcomic in my entire life.

The webcomics that many people around here are infatuated with, such as XCKD or whatever it’s called, never appeal to me. The humor is just too smug.

Hate comedy: Racial jokes, homophobic jokes, misogynist jokes, fat jokes, pranking/practical jokes (depends on the joke and the intent), laughing at someone else’s pain (ball smashing clips, face plants) not funny.

Making ugly jokes about people, especially things that are out of someone’s control (like race, gender, sexual orientation), I find to be really hateful and not funny.

How do you feel about ethnocentric comedy? Sometimes a show relies on everyone being of a certain group, and the joke is on someone coming in from outside that group. (A fair number of boiler-plate off-Broadway comedies base these on Jewish families because they’re so familiar to local audiences.) I think it’s lame comedically and questionable socially.

Like the OP, I don’t really like slapstick or scatological humor.

There are exceptions. Certain certifiably insane humor writers (like Tom Holt) do really funny slapsticky screwball comedy. Dave Barry and Christopher Moore make decent body function jokes. But on the whole, seeing someone slipping on a banana just makes me wince in sympathy.

He is! It is so beyond me why he’s so successful. My mom, of all people, kept trying to sell me on him for a while (you don’t know my mom so you don’t understand why that’s strange, but just take my word that it is). I think she saw him on Oprah or something?

Jerky Boys type humor. A friend of mine would bust a gut laughing at this while I just sat there board.

The same.

I think I’m more forgiving of certain types of comedy, for example, physical/slapstick has to be dead on for me to laugh while I think even mediocre farce is hilarious. But if it’s really, really well done, I’m probably going to find it funny.
