What do you never find funny?

Other people may make jokes about these topics but you never even crack a smile, and they may even offend you.

I tend to think most things can be funny. Even rape jokes, and I feel it’s because the human condition is such that if we don’t laugh, we cry for sure. For me it’s

  • Speech impediment jokes.
  • likewise, making fun of other people’s accents. I hate the stupid jokes about Chinese and Japanese accents. I am less hostile to jokes about the Indian accent, but mainly because if they are making them to me, they are making them directly to an Indian person and I can respond as I choose. To make Chinese language jokes to me smacks of cowardice to say the least.
  • Fart or poop jokes. They’re stupid. Sure, I like low-brow humor, but some things are a little too lowbrow.

What about you?

Animals getting hurt.

I used to work with a guy who was always telling “feminist” jokes . . . the kind of jokes that were heard a lot in the early 70s, except this was the early 2000s (not that the jokes were funny in the 70s either).

And jokes about priests abusing kids.

As a former male adolescent, never found and still don’t find the slightest bit of amusement in (read: am extremely annoyed by) the coining of made-up terms to describe made-up sex acts that no one’s ever really done. “You know what an X is? An X is when you Y your girlfriend while Z’ing her ear.”

No. No, it isn’t, and anyone other than a Howard Stern moron would know there’s nothing amusing about that (needless to say, Stern could go on for hours about these contrived sex act terms).

Peace, love and understanding. Nothing funny about those.

Your mom.

Actually, I don’t think there’s any subject I won’t laugh at. I tend to dislike fart jokes but there are still a few that’ll crack me up.

Edit: Hahaha! Crack me up!

I kill myself.

Jokes at the expense of dumb characters unless the writer obviously likes the dumb characters.

Dead baby jokes - sorry, I know a lot of people find it hilarious but I can’t say I’m one of them.

Humiliation humor.

It’s awful.

Yeah, I cringe at these, too. They positively hurt.

My only male co-worker has two daughters around middle-school age or so. He “jokes” about how they’ll never be allowed to date and will stay locked in their rooms until they’re 35 or so.

As a former overly-sheltered girl who had to work through a lot of shit to overcome being very badly socialized - especially re: the opposite sex - his comments leave me stony cold. Fathers who stunt their daughters so they can cling to the notion that they’re still a little girl when they’re not are directly responsible for a lot of fucked-up women out there.

Can’t think of anything else, though, even raping dead babies or whatever.

I watched an episode of the “Ricky Gervais” show on HBO. For those who haven’t seen it; it’s just a couple of dicks making fun of a guy for his less than stellar intelligence.

Granted, Karl (the guy being made fun of) is probably just doing shtick, I still don’t see why it’s funny.

Anti-Semite humor.

That ubiquitously mentioned thing that’s number three on every list.

Pretty much what you said.

My big two are pedantry and in-jokes that no one will explain.

  • Dumb-guy humor (like what Adam Sandler has made a career of–note I’m not talking about comics like Larry the Cable Guy, who often does make me laugh)
  • Loud broad slapstick (like what Jim Carrey has made a career of)
  • Fart jokes
  • Mean-spirited ethnic humor
  • Mean-spirited misogynistic humor (like the oh-so-funny “go make me a sammich” thing)
  • People getting kicked/hit in the crotch (oh, yeah, that’s just a side-splitter)

I pretty much don’t like stupid frat-boy style humor.

BTW, are those stupid made-up sex acts supposed to be funny? Seriously?

I can’t laught at incest jokes, ever. They make me sick.

And suicide jokes. Some dumbass kid will say “If you don’t know about x, go kill yourself lol! Never reproduce hehehee!” Fuck off and die, juvenile pricks. Or my old boss who would say “Oh my god I’m going to put a bullet in my brain.” NOT FUCKING FUNNY!

Jim Carey.

Fart jokes.

Husband-is-an-idiot humor (Everybody Loves Raymond, Home Improvement, etc)

Brother-is-an-idiot humor (See Nickelodean or Disney Channels)

Let’s see …

Dead baby jokes: never.

Bathroom humor jokes: rarely. I’m not offended by them; I just don’t get them.

I haven’t laughed at any of the jokes about the earthquake, tsunami, or nuclear problems in Japan.
