I just got a new monitor (see the thread which is probably just below this one), and two of the features of it are having 4 USB ports, and having a 9-in-1 card reader built into the left side. Since I had to juggle around a couple cables to take advantage of this, it got me thinking, what is everyone else’s USB/Firewire configuration?
My desktop:
rear ports:
uplink to monitor’s USB/card reader
uplink to keyboard’s 2 USB ports (USB1.0 only…so I no longer use, although my mouse used to go in there)
extension cord which runs to my other desk, which has my laptop and scanning devices. The other end is not currently connected to anything
1 remaining free port
front ports:
Saitek 2600 gamepad
second port is free, but it doesn’t work anyway
monitor:
microSD reader, dongle-sized (even though my monitor has a 9-in-1 reader which uses USB 2.0, micro-SD is NOT one of the 9)
Logitech wireless mouse receiver
2 free ports
Firewire:
1 rear port - Ipod cradle
1 front port - I plug my camcorder in here, only when I need to transfer video
and my laptop (which runs WinXP, which is the only OS that fully supports these devices) has 3 slots:
Palm Centro hotsync cradle
HP Photosmart S20 scanner / Microtek 4800 flatbed scanner (I swap the cable between the two, so that only one is connected at a time)
1 free slot
