I need this detail for a story that I’m writing.
I was young then but I do remember back in the mid-90s when there was a conflict in the Balkans between the Serbs and Bosnians, NATO got involved (this was before the Kosovo War, in which America directly supported NATO in airstrikes against Serbia.)
But prior to that - from 1992 to 1997 - did Clinton have any role in NATO’s Balkans policy, and what was it exactly?
Thanks a lot in advance for the help.
Poke around in wikipedia and you can find lots of stuff. If it isn’t there, then it probably didn’t happen.
You’ll want to google the Dayton Accords. Very quickly, the Clinton Administration helped broker a peace agreement in 1995 after NATO aircraft bombed Serbian military targets which were infringing on “safe harbor” areas in Bosnia.
Check out “War in a Time of Peace” by David Halberstam. It covers that issue in great detail. It may be more than you’re looking for, but it’s an excellent narrative of the Balkans issue during the Bush I and Clinton administrations.
