What was that damn word?

I seem to remember in a thread a while back someone (was it Unclebeer?) used a word to describe someone who studies their own belly button to achieve inner peace (or something similar to this…I dont think that was exactly it)…What the hell was that word? I wanted to bust it out on someone today but I couldn’t for the life of me think of it.

A little help here?

Navelgazer? Like shoegazer, but without the Ride undertones.

no, that wasn’t it.

But if you achieve inner peace by looking at your belly button, would you call it “navel reserve?”

Introspective?

Omphalosceptic.

I’m not sure of the spelling, though.

Merriam-Webster’s web site says omphaloskepsis;
means contemplation of one’s navel as an aid to meditation.

I think I posted it here in MPSIMS as a suggestion to someone for a new username, but I originally found it in a post by the greattomndebb. It’s interesting you should bring this up though, I was trying just the other day to remember that damnable word and the search engine wouldn’t cough it up.

Interestingly, about the root, omphalos, my dictionary has this to say, “a rounded stone in Apollo’s temple at Delphi, regarded as the center of the world by the ancients.

Thanks, folks.
