Just wondering. My first, and I freely admit my memory might be screwy here, was “Airplane,” when my family was on vaction in Kentucky. It was in the theater (damn, do I have good parents), and I remember thinking it was funny, but I obviously didn’t start to get all the jokes until later (for instance, the “From Here to Eternity” joke flew right over my head).
I seem to remember the second was a double bill of “The Muppet Movie” and “Star Wars.” Please feel free to correct me if sequence of release makes my memories impossible (yes, I know SW came out in 1977 - I’m sure it was a second or third run).
Oliver! when I was 5 or six years old. Talk about the wrong movie to take a kid to, I was interested for the first 5 or 6 minutes and then I just sort of …drifted away for the rest of the move. It is one of the strongest memories I have of my youth. Of course, when I was in high school, I was in the drama club and we did a production of Oliver!. It had improved a lot since I was six.

soulsling and I must be close to the same age, because I was about 6 when my parents offerred to take me to see Jaws. I am proud of the fact that I replied, “No, that will be too scary for me.”
“The Absent-Minded Professor” (1961) is the first movie I REMEMBER seeing in a theater. But I was also planted firmly in front of the old black-and-white teevee from the moment I could sit up . . .
It was the 3-D Jaws, so it may have been that my parents thought it was cool, but yes, they had it in for me anyway. And I was probably older, maybe 7 even. I don’t remember the year exactly. It was 3D, and it was all the hype, and some other kid in class saw it, and he said he didn’t want to ever see it again.
Let’s see… first one I remember seeing… probably Snow White or maybe Fantasia.
First non-cartoon? Star Wars. Opening Day 1976. I was all of 4 years old, and my dad took the day off work to take me. We got buttons which read “May the Force be With You.” on the way into the theater.
The first movie I can remember being brought to was Bedknobs and Broomsticks. A little flik I highly recommend. I’ve seen a few times since then and I always sit rapt.
Another first I remember - first drive-in movie. My parents brought my sister and I to see Young Frankenstein.
“The Black Hole” was the first movie I was taken to as a kid. My dad had a profound dislike of movie theaters for some reason, so we only went about once a year. Usually we saw sci-fi flicks.
My hubby took child #1 to see Toy Story 2 this spring and the little guy loved it, and was well behaved to boot.
I must be older than the rest of you (Star Wars? Jaws 3-D?!?!), though I think Eve is closer to my age(Absent-Minded Professor).
Anyway, the first one I clearly remember seeing at the theater was Bonnie & Clyde. And the main reason we saw it is because parts of the movie were filmed in Dallas and some nearby small towns (including Wilmer, where we lived) and we wanted to see our town on the big screen.
(The Dallas area was where B&C did most of their bank-robbing. The filmmakers were striving for authenticity. Also, in the early 60’s, most of the towns still look the way they did in the 30s. Still do, in fact.)
I’m sure my parents took me to the movies before that, but I just don’t remember it. (Probably fell asleep.) I have vague memories of seeing various Disney pictures, but nothing reliable.
We saw most of these movies at the drive-in. The first movie I saw with my parents at an indoor theater was Patton.
