What Was The Best Present You GAVE this year?

Ah, the joys of the hyphen!

Big-ass bow.
Big ass-bow.

Most expensive gift was to my niece, but the best gifts were to the family that I was with. I bought a bunch of metal twisty puzzles and wrapped them and handed them out. They kept my family occupied for hours. Most of them got frustrated, but my youngest niece, cute genius that she is, solved them all in just a couple of hours.

I bought my niece a decent-quality novelty wig in one of her university’s school colours. She hasn’t taken it off since and can’t wait to wear it to the next big game. I was so relieved she didn’t think I was insane for finding it so cool.

There are some crazy folks who seem to have taken over the dead gas station one block north of us. They are also doing a big brisket thing right now, it’s like the freaking McPoyle family, but with exploding stuff and in the exact middle of this town.

Yes, me and my son are heading back over in a little bit. BOOM!

I got one of these for my dad. He started playing with them as soon as he opened them, and they’re pretty much everyone’s favorite toy now.

And my brother said that his new leather gloves were the best fit he ever had. I used my boyfriend’s hands as a model when trying them out in the store, which turned out to be pretty accurate.

I got my mom an “It’s a Wonderful Life” Christmas ornament personally autographed to her by Karolyn “ZuZu” Grimes.

For the first night of Hanukkah I gave my boyfriend a 55 page book I made with http://www.lovebookonline.com/. I didn’t use any of their templates, so every page was specifically about him and us and why I love him so much. I really should have saved it for the last night, because he adored it. He read it out loud to me. Twice. He even showed it to his dudebro friends.

I gave my daughter a brand new Yamaha Tenor sax.
Judging by the flute I bought her 5 yrs ago, she’ll get good usage out of it.

This year I gave my son a bullhorn

Last year I gave him a can of Tactical Bacon.

Two years ago I gave him a can of Anti-Monkey Butt Powder.

I did a mostly all hand-knitted xmas this year, and the best one was my mom’s new lacy shawl. The handspun yarn cost a bundle and I ended up with a callous on my finger, but it was WORTH IT!

Pics or it never happened.

Anti-monkey-butt man has my full permission to ignore this dictum. . .

A little late but I just recieved the present I’m giving to my mom and brother.

A 26" LCD TV with a built-in DVD player.

The Klein Bottle Opener!!!

That’s cool, I love functional objects d’art.

The best I gave this year, a surprise limo to go with our symphony tix, totally affordable (Mom&pop shop $ vs the big city vendor $$$$) but unexpected and over the top.For the ride, Champage for adults, sodapop for the kids, unlimited chocolates, stereo tuned to WYCE.

The feeling we had zipping in and out of the cold to our waiting chauffeured limo, priceless!

I bought my dad a copy of Steven Pinker’s The Language Instinct. This was because I bought him How the Mind Works last year on a whim and he was completely obsessed with it and drove us all crazy trying to explain the entire thing to us and relate all the examples and theories and anecdotes.

This one has been a similar hit. We’re going on 2 weeks now of “I was reading in that book chizzuk got me. . .[long monologue].” It gets kind of tiring to listen to, but I’m glad he likes it so much.

The best gifts wold be the ones for my family.

For my younger son, I ordered three bare root fruit trees…two apples and a cherry. I spent part of the Christmas holiday teaching my son how to prune fruit trees, and consulted with him on the best location for his three trees which will arrive in February.

After helping my older son repair the leaks in his roof, I took him to Home Depot and had him choose a really upscale tool box. We also included some basic gardening tools for his new house.

For my daughter-in-law, I bought some gold earrings with danging pearls. Later she told me that she really liked the special anticipation of her father-in-laws tradition of earrings.

And I gave my wife a really pretty Alexandrite ring…which she wears.
