What was the earliest use of a black hole/black star in Sci-Fi (TV or movies)?

Ep Tomorrow Is Yesterday from Star Trek: TOS was the earliest I could think of off-hand. Any earlier ones?

Well, the REAL question you should ask is, “Should it count as a ‘black hole’ if they CALL it one, but it behaves nothing like one?” You can’t put a crack in an event horizon, y’know (though in TOS’s defense, that particular piece of shoddy writing came from Voyager…)

Clarke’s The City and the Stars described black holes and quasars, tho not naming them as such.

I’ve heard that the first reference was in Star Trek, presumably the episode you mention. But it’s always hard to verify first appearances of anything.

Then again, at the time of Trek, there wasn’t much other SF out there, so it’s probably a pretty safe bet.
