What was the first date you ever went on?

My first date was also a movie. I was in 11th grade. After having dinner with her and her mother, I took her to see Transylvania 6-5000.

My first date was to see You’ve Got Mail (bleh); a double date with my friend and his girlfriend.

Oddly enough, “his girlfriend” is now my wife.

:frowning: That’s sad. Why not?

Circa: 1973 or so. My girlfriend and I, best friend and his girlfriend (my next door neighbor) went to see The Sting. Got to second base.

it was 1968, I was a freshman in high school, and my date took me to see 2001: Space Odyssey.

The movie had such an impact on each of us that we had a tough time talking to one another afterwards, so we just went home. Luckily, we gave it another go the following weekend and went to a college hockey game where we had a great time. We dated for that entire school year. Nice memories.

Went to an a capella concert.

1972 or 1973 or so. We went on a group outing to “Alhambra Night” at Disneyland. I was so bashful and nervous that I felt a bit sick and nauseated the whole time and was probably no fun to be with.

The girl and I went with a group to the pool.

We had started talking in school just before the start of summer break.

I see what you did there.

Really, just a tease. If only I’d waited until his Doors period…

That movie cracked me up.

“You missed a spot.”

Score!

I wish!

hmmm… 1973, I think, and we saw Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, on a re-release (they used to do that back in the pre-VCR era).

Miniature golf? I think I was around 12 as was the boy. We biked to the course and ate sno cones afterwards.

Why is that sad? I never “dated” most of my sexual partners, just did fun things together. I personally don’t really like formal dates.

I’ve never been on a date either, if you mean where someone formally asks someone out for later. The closest I came was a grad-school-mate who said he would take me out that night. He hailed a cab for us to go maybe a block and then we ate at a steakhouse. Ii was a nice gesture but at the same time I had just recently seen him scrounging up money through financial aid. I don’t know why I didn’t just suggest other plans!

It was to Rick Springfield’s “Hard to Hold” movie.

Bowling. The alley is still there 45 years later.

A movie for me too, it was Encino Man, went with my date and a few other friends. My date put his arm around me and I was so nervous that he would try to kiss me that I pretended to fall asleep.

Tell me more, tell me more
Was it love at first sight?

Pizza Hut restaurant, where I spilled my Pepsi all over the table (but not on either of us).

A different girl, it was a Happy Joe’s Pizza restaurant.

He took you to 2001 and you let him get away? Piffle.

13 October, 1973. 11th grade homecoming dance, at age 15, to a girl in my class, also 15. It was a hot date, sparks flew, lit a fire that hasn’t yet stopped burning. We are still together. (We did date others while 800 miles apart in college, but found others to be ‘meh’.)

My dad drove us to the dance, picked us up after, distracted her parents with entertaining stories upstairs at her place while she and I made out in their downstairs family room. Damn, I had a great dad.
