What was the first date you ever went on?

I was in utero when my parents took me to see 2001.

I’m not sad about it in the least. Dating appears from the outside to be a fairly horrible social tradition where two people meet up to try and sell themselves to each other to the point where they score a second date. I can’t count the number of cartoons and jokes I have seen on this very subject. Usually with a ton of comments along the lines of “That’s so true”

I abhor most artificial social situations and dates are that in spades. I met my wife through a common interest and our attraction grew, rather rapidly as it turns out, until we decided to make our relationship permanent.

If you like dates and want to pursue that lifestyle then more power to you. Just don’t imagine it is the only way to find companionship.

A Virgil Fox"Heavy Organ" concert.

But do you take your wife out on dates, like to dinner? There’s dating and then there’s date night. My husband and I are married, not dating, but we go out to dinner occasionally. That could be considered a date.

My first date was to Armando’s Pizza, after school. I was in 7th grade and my date was in 8th grade. We dated for a few months, which was a long time back then.

1971, Fox Theater in San Diego? I was there.

Forgot to post my own entry. My first was 1966. Junior in High School, I took Pam to see Sonny & Cher at the San Diego Community Concourse. First time I ever drove anyone (other than a parent) anywhere.

Dinner and a concert here, too. It was 1971 and I was 14, my date was 16. We were already in “puppy love,” so it wasn’t awkward. We’d been hanging out for awhile already.

My mother drove us to and picked us up after. We had dinner at an Italian restaurant across the street from the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City and then went to see Three Dog Night. Had a great time.

The boy and I dated for a few more months before I moved away.

Alas, he was a senior and after graduation he went into the navy. Half a world away and in the middle of a war was pretty daunting for a first love in those pre-internet days. Or if I look at gigi’s answer, those pre-historic days!

My brother was about 3 years older than me, and our uncle was about 3 years older than him.

Uncle had a girlfriend with sisters that approximately matched our ages, so we went on a triple date.

I would have been about 10 years old. Don’t remember a thing about the girl. I remember the movie was “The Night Walker” starring Barbara Stanwyck and I liked it. I also had my first taste of… of… Cherry Coke.
