What was the last concert you attended?

Last performer anyone has heard of, Miranda Lambert in February. Even thought it was in a big arena (I like smaller shows), it was a great performance.

Sunday before last I saw goth/punk band Bella Morte in Richmond, VA. It was an interesting but tiny venue with a tiny stage. But the volume was ear-splitting, way too damn loud. It caused distortion in my ears and vibrated my skull. They’re a great band and give a great live show but I only made it through 4 or 5 songs.

Probably Human Nature at the Venetian in Las Vegas. Great show!

Wayne “The Train” Hancock put on a free show at a local ice cream stand the night before last. It was great. Before that, I saw Robert Earl Keen in June. And Jon Prine in February. This year has been unusually (for me) light on the live music, but I did recently have a baby, so she’s been taking up most of our concert time.

I’ll be seeing Dave Rawlings Machine the day after tomorrow.

Wynton Marsalis’s Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra playing with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra back in March.

Next up: Kesha in October!!!

Probably the North Carolina Symphony performing the “Music of Star Wars (and other science fiction movies).” I figured it would be a good way to introduce my son to symphonic music, and I was correct. He loved it.

I forgot about Eva Ayllon, an Afro-Peruvian singer last month. She was great, but obviously not on the level of Kesha.

Bela Fleck at the Mondavi Center at UC Davis a few months ago.

Damn it’s been since 2015? My last concert was Rush on their 40th anniversary/farewell tour in 2015.

I don’t think I responded to the last one.

FreshGrass bluegrass festival last September @ Mass MOCA. Plan to attend again this year. Lots of acts on many stages.

But for a straight concert I saw Elvis Costello and Steeley Dan two summers ago.

Violent Femmes and Echo & The Bunnymen at Northerly Island, Chicago, last month

Steve Earle and the Dukes. Old Town School of Folk Music, Chi-town. I got to sy Hi and have my picture taken with him because he is a very cool, approachable guy. His opening band was a husband and wife team that also plays in the Dukes. Very cool show.
Here’s the opening band, The Mastersons:

And here’s Steve nowadays:

Queen + Adam Lambert, last month, in Chicago.

I’d seen them here, three years ago, the first time that they toured together – it was a great show then, and this year’s version was even better. Lambert seems to have grown into the songs, and while there’s no way one could ever replace Freddie Mercury, he’s found his own voice in Queen’s songs. Plus, he clearly has very good chemistry with Brian May and Roger Taylor (both of whom are still in top form).

I see I failed to mention when the show was. Last month, the 25th.

Jidenna at a very small venue a few weeks ago. AWESOME show!

I’m going to see the Dead Milkmen, one of my favorite bands, for the first time ever at the same small venue on 9/15. It might very well be my last show ever, I may just drop dead.

Since that thread in 2011 I’ve probably been to at least a dozen shows.

Social Distortion last year. Wonderful show, though it did make me feel old

UK, at the Aladdin Theater in SE Portland, five years ago.

Don Henley, a few weeks back.

Elbow, at the Greek in LA. About 6 years ago.

Andrew Bird at the House of Blues in Cleveland last year. My wife is a huge fan so I get dragged along! In fact, I think the last one before that was Andrew Bird at Ram’s Head in Baltimore…

U2 in Chicago on my birthday a couple of years ago. Did the whole VIP package thing.
