What was the last sitcom to have an introductory song with lyrics?

What was you favorite?

Mine?

There’s a holdup in the Bronx,
Brooklyn’s broken out in fights;
There’s a traffic jam in Harlem
That’s backed up to Jackson Heights;
There’s a scout troop short a child,
Khrushchev’s due at Idlewild!
Car 54, Where Are You??

Weeds? Orange is the New Black?

Where did you get the idea that they stopped making sitcoms without lyrics in their opening titles?

If you mean lyrics that mention the show’s title, there’s Bored to Death

I think Mangosteen means introductory as in expository – theme songs that give you a rundown of the premise of the show; e.g. the ones from Gilligan’s Island, The Brady Bunch, or Alice.

“You’ve Got Time” kinda gives you the general feel of Orange is the New Black (or so I assume, having only heard the song and interviews from Piper Kerman), sorta like “I’ll Be There for You” and Friends. I don’t know if I’d count either of them, though.

Looking at TV Tropes (no link as a public service), the most recent one could be Hannah Montana. My favorite? I’ll say Mystery Science Theatre 3000, even though that’s not stricttly a sitcom.

The Neighbors added such a song opening to their 2nd (and current) season.

The Nanny? The Nanny Lyrics - Theme Song Lyrics

Great rhyme there, BTW.

If you count cable-only series, there’s Happily Divorced (also starring Fran Drescher):

I like the Burn Notice intro. Not a song, but gets the show’s idea across very quickly. “You know spies. A bunch of bitchy little girls.” “Should we shoot them?”

The TVLand show “The Exes” (2011) has an expository theme song. We’ll the first season did. The Exes Theme Lyrics - YouTube

I sometimes sing along to the Big Bang Theory intro ("Our whole universe was in a hot dense state… we built the pyramids!)

Not sure what the last sitcom was - but I do like the extremely short “New Girl” intro which is a parody of sitcom intros.

Favorite is either “All in the Family” or “Addams Family” with the bronze going to WKRP.

::shakes head sadly::

It seems, today, that all you see is violence in movies and sex on TV.

We’re tiny, we’re toony, we’re all a little loony. And in this cartoony we’re invading your TV.

That’s what I was going to post. It’s irreverent, sly and explains the show in about 15 seconds.

Can’t forget Bill Cosby and Hitler

Our whole universe was in a hot dense state,
Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait…

You can’t get much more introductory than that.

The opening theme to COMMUNITY doesn’t really fit, except it kinda does, given the absurdity of then still taking classes at a community college all these years later.

The theme from F Troop had lyrics during the first season.

The King of Queens…

In just two lines, the intro to The Goldbergs hits on the tone and themes of the show. It’s a typical crazy sitcom family, but set in the 80s, so tinged heavily with both nostalgia and genuine retrospection.

Didn’t The Cleveland Show have one?
