What was the most gratuitous piece of nudity you've ever seen in a movie?

And that’s why she was there in the first place. Seems exactly what the plot called for.

I can’t believe I’m defending this stupid movie…

Eleniak played a stripper who was supposed to pop out of a cake in the birthday party. The bad guys, who were posing as the catering staff, had slipped her a mickey so she’d stay out of the way, and she promptly fell asleep while waiting inside the cake. Later on, Steven Segal came in and accidentally started playing the stripper music, at which point she awoke with a start, heard her cue and came out dancing.

Now, as to why there needed to be a naked stripper in the film at all, that’s another question. I have to add, though, that if there’s one thing more eye-rolling than naked strippers in a movie, it’s non-naked strippers in a movie, the PG-13 kind who dance around in sparkly bras. What the hell is the point of those?

In the G-rated The Andromeda Strain (1969), there’s a shot of a topless “hippy” girl as one of the victims found at the town where the meteorite landed. There’s lots of speculation about what she represented, but I think she was the director’s friend who wanted to be in the movies! :stuck_out_tongue:

The first scene of the original version of Carrie is a slow-motion shower scene in a girl’s locker room. True, it sets up the reaction of Carrie when she has her first period while showering, but the rest of the girls running around nude isn’t really necessary to the plot. Gratuitous or not?

Oh yeah, that’s why. Can’t believe I forgot that. I’ve seen that movie hundreds of times - it’s not stupid!

Yep. 100%

Completely Gratuitous! Kinda sets the bar.

I’m sure that I’ve read somewhere that shooting of the movie Walkabout was delayed for some reason (finances?) such that, by the time shooting did take place, Jenny Agutter had passed some critical age threshold, which allowed her part to be rewritten with nude scenes.

My memory is sketchy on the detail here (sorry! - anyone help me out?), but if that is correct then it’s pretty much the definition of gratuitous, surely?

A bad early 1980s slasher movie: The Slumber Party Massacre. I know it’s not really surprising for a slasher movie to have gratuitous nudity. But this scene of a girl showering in a locker room wasn’t only unnecessary to the plot (what little plot it had), the camera literally pans down to get a good shot of her ass.

Wasn’t there a topless woman astride a guy in a cemetery at the beginning of ‘Phantasm’? just before she stabbed him?

Considering what happened, it was a really stupid mistake by the bad guys. They couldn’t find one free lance woman mercenary/ex-Mossad/whatever that could pass for a stripper, just to get on board? It’s not like her stripping was instrumental to their plan. One more gun for them, and one less helper for Ryback and maybe they would have succeeded.

Also one thing that bugged me, why are her boobs bigger in the movie than they are in the Playboy photos that came out about the same time? Old photos, or make up prosthetics?

I can’t decide whether Julie Andrews’ boob flash in S.O.B. was gratuitous, non-gratuitous, or both at the same time.

It was a commentary on gratuitous nudity. Somehow. Ironic use of irony. We had to destroy the nudity to save it, Or something.

Part of the plot was that it was a surprise party for the Captain, so he wasn’t informed/approved the helicopter landing with the caterers/mercenaries on board. To get that past the OOD, the mercs wanted to have an actual, recognizable, Playboy Playmate be the stripper. So Erika Eleniak was almost literally playing herself - Miss July 1989, they just changed the character name to Jordan Tate. They even passed around copies of her issue in the movie. Having an unrecognizable stripper would have made it more likely the OOD would go to the captain before allowing the helicopter to land.

And her pictorial came out in 1989, when she was 19, while the movie came out three years later, so she could easily have put on a few pounds.

ETA: And I really can’t blame the mercs for not considering the “What if the stripper we brought aboard joins forces with the Navy SEAL no one told us about?” angle.

I think Rilchiam has a point - it really drives home that Katy has cheated on her boyfriend. Emma Stone suggested and insisted on a tiny bit of nudity on her part in the recent movie The Favorite for precisely that reason - to make a statement to her antagonist in the scene about exactly what had happened.

However, the real reason it was included in Animal House was because Karen Allen didn’t want to show her butt and only agreed to do so after Donald Sutherland( who couldn’t care less about being nude on camera )cheerfully dropped his pants on command from the director, making her laugh. She then agreed if he did it, she would.

So oddly I think the scene plays better with Sutherland’s naked ass, but it might have originally come from a slightly gratuitous place.

Plenty of gratuitous male nudity in A Room with a View.

If I remember correctly, from when I was a youngster. Repossessed with Leslie Nielsen had the most sex and boobs of any PG-13 movie I’d seen.

Linnea Quigley’s character in Return of the Living Dead gets high in the graveyard with her punk friends, strips off her clothes and dances, then spends the rest of the movie nude until she gets turned into a naked zombie. She looks fantastic, imo, but she’s really the only T&A in the movie and she remains naked during scenes where it would seem that she would get dressed as soon as she could.

You mean this potbelly, thunder thighs and bulging hips? :dubious:

She actually wanted to be nakeder but the producers didn’t want to show public hair and had her shaved, then they thought that was even worse so they used a cover up device to give her a pubic area like Barbie’s.

Gulag. It was a made-for-cable movie from 1985. David Keith plays an innocent American reporter who gets arrested in the Soviet Union and sent to a prison camp. The movie is about his attempts to survive and then escape.

So how do you work some female nudity into a movie set inside an all-male prison camp? You have the lead character have a dream about his wife taking a shower back home.
