What was the point of "A Talking Picture"?

= I’m sure spoilers are here. =

I saw this on the strength of it’s reviews at rotten tomatoes.

Honestly, I didn’t understand it at all. Was there some point to it? Was the message really “Muslims have always attacked the civilized world, and always will”? Not a very polite message in my opinion, and it struck me as the sort of movie geared towards polite people.

Also, and I mean this sincerely, what was supposed to be good about this movie? Surely not the acting, dialogue, plot or pace. The photography was beautiful, and a little history lesson is interesting, I guess.
