I’m actually thinking this belongs in the Pit, cause politics and death tend to bring out strong emotions sometimes.
I think Trump desperately wants a Nobel Prize. He was so unfairly denied the Peace Prize. By taking credit for the Covid vaccine he hopes to get the prize for Medicine instead.
Lessee here, IIRC both the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Dolly Parton threw money at developing a vaccine long before the ex pres or his relatives or underlings did jack shit about it.
Nitpick – I believe he wants the “Noble Prize”.
I stand corrected.
In the article (and the headline), I see this line “Anyone can be nominated for the prize, and hundreds of candidates are submitted every year.” I think as many people as possible should get nominated (I assume there’s a fee, so not everyone can be nominated). For the sake of the committee, hopefully they already have a shortlist so they wouldn’t have to wade through hundreds/thousands of applicants that are mostly submitted as a joke. But for Trump’s sake, I think it would be funny for his nomination to be effectively meaningless, or rather, even more meaningless than it already is.
OTOH, it’s probably more effective for the world to just ignore it and pretend like it didn’t happen. Don’t write articles on it, don’t mention his name in the list of nominees etc. Watch the GOP spin that into some type of censorship/first amendment issue as if to suggest that every news outlet should be required to run a story on it and every social media platform should be required to serve it up to all their members.
Maybe he could get an Ig Nobel Prize for his handling of the pandemic.
I would support that just to see Trump’s reaction to “Miss Sweetie Poo, a little girl who repeatedly cries out, “Please stop: I’m bored”, in a high-pitched voice if speakers go on too long”.
The Pfeizer vaccine got nothing from Operation Warp speed until after the vaccine was developed.
“Pfizer chose to risk its own money on vaccine research and not take federal funding in order to avoid bureaucracy and politics, Pfizer’s CEO Albert Bourla said. He said its investment so far was at least $1.5 billion.”
There is no fee for nominating someone for a Nobel Prize other than your time and the cost of the postage. Well let me condition that. I’ve only done Economics which isn’t really a Nobel Prize so it’s possible there is a fee, but I doubt it.
And while anyone can be nominated, I’m not sure anyone can nominate. The only times I did so were the times I was sent a form by the committee and asked to do so. I’m 1 for n by the way. That is once the pair of people I nominated were selected that year. I’m sure my nomination pushed it just over the goal line ![]()
