What Was With That "Wet Dream" Song?

I’m sure some SDopers must remember that “Wet Dream” song full of very fishy, fish puns and/or sexual innuendo? Is there a story behind that song? Was it written for a TV show, perhaps? What else would possess someone to write this piece of carp? …and, who DID write/sing of anyways?

Kip Addota

It’s a novelty song. What is there to get?

Not this one? The Fugs : Wet Dream - YouTube

For some reason, I have it stuck in my head that it came from something first, like a TV show, and evolved into a novelty record. Anyone else feel the same? Anybody? …Anybody at all?

…Oh, btw, for the record? I have a similar feeling about that “Barbie Girl” song (I’m a Barbie Girl, in a Barbie World). Did that come from something else first before going “solo”? I dunno…maybe I’ve just lost it! :o

Not to my knowledge in either case. Kip Addotta has a number of comedy talk-songs, many punny, so that’s just his thing (or one of his things. He’s a stand-up comic.)

As far as I know and could look up “Barbie Girl” was written as a social commentary, and was even the target of a lawsuit by Mattel. I have no idea where you got the idea that it was from something else.

Someone else remembers it!

I was going to say “I’m glad someone else remembers it,” but I’m not even sure I’m glad I remember it.

I was surprised when neither of the previous mentions included the original - a song full of single entendre - and by far the best song of that title.

Max Romeo - Wet dream

I certainly remember the song – it was a staple on the Doctor Demento radio show in the '80s.

I don’t have any recollection of it being anything other than a novelty song, though I wonder if you’re recalling the video that silenus linked to, and thinking it was from a TV show.

Is it possible you’re somehow conflating the song with the short-lived animated TV series Fish Police?

Only six episodes. That really floundered.

It must’ve jumped the shark early.

Decades ago, I saw Kip Adotta doing that entire “song” without music, as part of his stand-up comedy routine. A long monologue full of groan inducing fishy puns.

I guess he added music and made the routine into a novelty song later.
