Ho hum. Hullo. I’m bored. My mind wandered to the early days of when I was a wee lass.
The first concert I ever went to was Loverboy. I was 7. I remember that I hated them, but that was ok because my parents took us all there to see the opening band- the Hooters.
I would have been the youngest person there, perhaps the youngest peron to ever attend a Loverboy concert, had not my 2-year old sister been there with me.
Very odd of my parents to take us there- but cool. I hope Loverbaoy was not what permanently scarred me.
They Might Be Giants, at JJ Whispers Orlando. 1990. I was 12.
TMBG was the first band that i ever really liked, so this was a huge deal for me. I can still remember practically wetting myself when they started “Particle Man”.
First real concert; Hank Williams, Jr. I was a senior in high school. I was into my music pretty good, but not into concerts.
In fact, I’ve probably seen only about 6-7 different artists in concert (although Hank got my money on at least 5 different occasions). I’m not counting fairs and festivals and such.
REM, 1986-ish, on their Pageant tour. I was a sophomore in high school. A few weeks ago, I was driving by myself, late at night, and while flipping the radio dial, I came across a college station broadcasting a recording from that tour. It was eerie, in a completely great and satisfying way.
It’s getting harder to think of the last concert I went to … maybe Rev. Horton Heat in 1998?
WOW. This has me tripping. First, I saw that REM tour. I was in college–ah, youth! Hadn’t thought about that in ages.
Secondly, my best friend just called me the other day after staying up WAY too late a one of the Rev’s concerts. Said it was awesome–and I missed a great show. How’s that for a double whammy coincidence?
Alice Cooper in the Presque Isle (Maine) Field House. This was smack dab in the middle of his alcolism. Special Forces Tour - late 70’s or early 80’s. If I recall, the opening band was Bill Chinook.
My first concert that my parents took me to was Charlie Daniels Band. I was probably eight or nine and I only knew that one song about the devil going down to Georgia. Even then, all the rest of the whole show sounded like a big pile of hillbilly poop.
The first show I went to see on purpose was Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers with Lenny Kravitz. This was the Full Moon Fever album, so it must have been '89 or so. Back when I had no idea who Lenny Kravitz was, and he only had that one song “Let Love Grow”.
I can’t be sure, but I think the first concert I ever saw was Bob Dylan with Tom Petty. I remember we drove down from Green Bay to Alpine Valley, so I must have been around 16, so that would be, what – '83 or '84 I think. Awesome show.
I’m kinda embarassed about it now but my first concert was the Backstreet Boys… unless you count Paul Hann when I was like really little… I’ve only been to about 4 concerts actually unless you add on April Wine from last summer when they played at Klondike Days
My first concert was the Monkees when I was 13(?)(1986?)with my sister. They had a renuion tour with a some other 60’s groups. Great show. The next night she took me to see Santana. My sister rocks.
PS Turpentine: Did you see in the news that the bassist for Loverboy is presumed dead after being swept off his boat by a huge wave earlier this week? Didn’t Brian Wilson die that way too?
Anyway, the first concert I remember attending was a Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, in the Arena at Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ. I was 8 years old.
The first concert/show I attend as a teenager, on my own free will, The Ramones, at City Gardens in Trenton, NJ. I was 13 or 14.
I just took my boys to thier first concert 2 years ago for their birthdays, Korn and Rob Zombie. They loved it.
My first was Linda Rondstadt, 1976. I was 4 and my 12 year old brother had a crush on her, so my mom took us both to the concert at Merryweather Post Pavilion in Maryland.
My first concert that I chose to go to was Elton John when I was 14. My second was Billy Joel. And yes, I still listen to the soft rock station.
