What was your first rock concert?

You are so NOT lame compared to me. At least you had a better reason for being there, like employment, than I did for all my Christian band obsessions back in the day. Argh. I’m so embarrassed to say that mine was B.J. Thomas, at the Six Flags Ampitheater in Arlington, around '82 or so. Now, as far as real concerts go, I didn’t get to do that until I went over to the dark side :::chuckle::: to see Def Leppard at Reunion Arena in '92 or '93. Before that, the closest I came was the rekindled Skynard.

Aw, but I’m much better now. Lotsa Aerosmith under my belt, thank goodness.

I hereby claim the most embarrasing first concert: Gary Glitter at Festival Hall here in Melbourne in (I think) 1973. My musical taste improved somewhat after that.

My LAST ‘rock’ concert was Tull at the Melbourne Concert Hall about 5 years ago. While it was very civilised, I wish it had been performed at the old Festival Hall. THAT place had a bit of chutzpah that the Concert Hall lacked.

Lollapalooza, August 28, 1991 - Enumclaw, WA aka “Seattle”

Jane’s Addiction, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Living Color, Nine Inch Nails, Fishbone, Violent Femmes, Ice-T/Body Count, Butthole Surfers, Rollins Band

I spent the day with my mouth agape shocked at what I was witnessing (music and concertgoers). What’s that smell?

The first concert I was supposed to see was Led Zeppelin on their In Through the Out Door tour. They cancelled the whole tour when John Bonham died. How cool would that have been to see Zep for your first concert?

My first concert ended up being Aerosmith in Miami in 83 or 84 and I believe it was a reunion tour, since Steve and Joe made up. I don’t think they had quite dried out yet, because eew, they stank.

Queen with Billy Squier supporting, July 1982.

I was fifteen.

At age 5 in 1969, my parents celebrated my love of pop music by taking me to see Bobby Sherman. What’s even better is that we taped the show and I still have one of the cassettes. Now there’s some memories.

Fast forward a bit to my first “real” concert - Fleetwood Mac on their Rumours tour in 1977.

Technically, my first was The Pointer Sisters.

The one I own up to is Nine Inch Nails. The Downward Spiral tour. The Melvins and The Jim Rose Circus Sideshow opening. Omaha, NE. The “Hurt” video was filmed there.

What should have been my first concert was Nirvana, with opening acts The Breeders and Shonen Knife. I figured, well, they’ll come through again…

extrem steel tour a couple years back missed morbid angel and came in near the end of scrape’s set just in time for static-x (realy good) and then slayer came on (that GREAT set) and the pnatera came one and despite the bigest coolest set peice i thougt they put on a realy boring show…i still don’t like pantera

Ok, my first rock concert was the Spin Doctors and Soul Asylum in New Orleans. I’m picturing Screaming Trees there too, but that may have been a different show. I went to a lot of concerts during high school.

As for my first concert, that is much, much more embarassing. It was…ahem…Milli Vanilli. I think I’ve topped you, kambuckta.

Elvis Presley, 1974

I knew who he was, but I didn’t really *know * who he was, if you take my meaning. (I was 12 years old at the time.)

He came onstage wearing a white jumpsuit with a blue peacock on the front and a cape. The cheering and screaming were so loud when he first came out you would have thought God Himself had was on the stage. I had to put my fingers in my ears to muffle the noise. And I remember looking over my right shoulder at the crowd and there were so many flashbulbs going off I got a little dizzy looking at them all.

Two other memories: almost every woman around me at one time or another yelled at him, “Turn around!”

The concert lasted a little over an hour, but by the time it was over, I left convinced that Elvis Presley was some sort of super-human being.
