I’m a PC user, but a lot of what I do deals with digital imaging, and when I work I use a G4 that I secretly love. And through these two I’ve used Netscape and IE, in fact, I’d used Netscape back when it was apparently entirely different, during its earlier versions. Anyway, thats not the point, just recently I installed Mozilla Firebird, and since then I’ve learned about some of the more entertaining features of it and have since become pretty crazy about it.
So, I was wondering, what do other people use to view the ol’ SDMB? And, is there any particular reason you do?
Anything entertaining? I can’t think of any other web browsers off the top of my head except maybe… Opera?
Mozilla. Mostly because of tabs and popup blocking,
Yeah, I really love having the tabs, and all the addons people make for it do some pretty useful things. But for popups, I had the google toolbar for IE, but pop up blocking in Mozilla seems to be some of the better working blocking I’ve seen
I use slimbrowser for all the reasons shown at the link.
Firebird in both Linux and Win32
PC user here and I haven’t used anything other than IE and Netscape (though I’d like to give others a try sometime soon). After years of using IE, I switched to Netscape earlier this month because my IE became seriously screwed through some bug which I can’t identify. I can’t even uninstall the bugger, but that’s a different story.
Crazy Browser. It’s more of a plug-in for Internet Explorer, I guess. Good things about it:
– It has browser tabs, like Opera. Clicking a link with my middle mouse button opens the link in new tab.
– Pop-up blocker.
– No ads – it’s free!
– It’s tiny – takes no time at all to load.
Another two features:
– No obnoxious icons or toolbars.
– If I type a phrase in the address bar and hit ctrl+shift+enter, it will open a new browser tab showing me the Google results matching that phrase! Just like the Google toolbar – but without the bloated rubbish on your screen.
I use Opera and Mozilla Firebird at home, and I’ve been trying to get my boyfriend to abandon IE. He’s being stubborn though, and he won’t change, even though the other two browsers are far superior.
I like Opera and Firebird because of the built-in pop-up blocker, the tabbed browsing, the mouse gestures, and the built-in google search bar. I’m sure there are more reasons, but I can’t think of them now. If only I could get my SO to switch so I wouldn’t have to use this crappy IE when I’m browsing the message board on his laptop.
Actually Jervoise, have you used Mozilla Firebird? Sounds like they’ve got a lot of the same advantages, not that that means theres any reason to change although I prefer the built in, compact version of the google toolbar thats in this one
Opera here. It fun. It no crash like IE. Me like.
I use Netscape 7.1 for a lot of little reasons. The MAIN reason is you can use the mouse wheel to go back and forwrd. That is SO convenient to me.
Safari.
Tabs, pop-up blocking, built-in Google, Bookmarks bar, and it’s quicker’n hell. However, I do hope they do 2.0 soon. There are some things I’d like to see (“Copy Image Address” and “Open in Background Tab” come to mind).
Netscape, all the way. I like the tabs.
I refuse to have that bugridden piece of dreck called IE on my machine.
Firebird user here. Light weight, no ads, tabbed browseing, and effective pop-up blocking. That and it displays .png files correctly.
Safari and Firebird, for tabs and killing pop-ups.
I tried Mozilla, but it screwed up my ability to display .pdf files, even when I used IE. I downloaded and installed the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, and it worked fine again until I fired up Mozilla and then I couldn’t read them again. Has anyone else run into this problem?
I guess I don’t understand the appeal of tabbed browsing, I open new windows in IE and all the 'tabs" are down on my taskbar and it’s easy to switch between windows. Is there something I’m missing?
Netscape sucks goat butt! I love IE!!
Safari. It’s soooo good!

not a single popup (I haven’t had one since I started using it about 5 months ago), easy google, easy tabs, lightnign speed, nice layout.
Another Slimbrowser fan here.
Features galore, plenty fast, very stable. What’s not to like?
