What were the best movies of the 1990's?

Well, we are 10 years removed from the 1990’s and I feel like we can better judge the decade now. What were the best movies from 1990-1999?

I think the best were:

Three Kings - This is in my “pat your back if you saw it” and “hang your head if you missed it” category of movies. Amazing film. I hate the director, actually, but it’s a wonderful film. I saw it in the theater and wont’ forget it. Rent this if you never saw it.

**Pulp Fiction **- Quentin Tarantino’s most fun and cool movie. Very “90’s” to me.

The Matrix - I really believed the Wachonski brothers were talented after watching this. I changed my mind after seeing the sequels, but this one still is great.
**
Schindler’s List **- Best best picture winner from the 1990’s. A great movie.

What do you think? Why?

My 20 best (in chronological order):

La Belle Noiseuse
The Double Life of Veronique
Vacas
The Last of the Mohicans
Simple Men
Groundhog Day
The City of Lost Children
Dead Man
A Moment of Innocence
Se7en
Smoke
Underground
Lone Star
A Summer’s Tale
When We Were Kings
The Sweet Hereafter
Out of Sight
Show Me Love
Belfast, Maine
Topsy-Turvy

And the best short: The Wrong Trousers

Wow - I came in to mention Three Kings, Lone Star and Out of Sight. Beaten so quickly!

LA Confidential
Babe

In addition to ones already mentioned:

LA Confidential
Twelve Monkeys
The Usual Suspects
The Silence of the Lambs
The Shawshank Redemption
American Beauty
Fight Club

12 Monkeys
Fifth Element
Limbo

I’ll add:

Unforgiven
Resovoir Dogs

Yes, I forgot:

Silence of the Lambs - Deserves the attention it gets. It really is…creepy.

12 Monkeys - Just watch it. Don’t try to explain it.

What’s Out of Sight like? I have not seen it.

I think they still posses talent, although the sequels were god awful. They’re great writers though, as demonstrated in V for Vendetta (which they didn’t direct, but had a helping hand in).

As for my list:

Ace Venture (it’s hilarious! Alrighty then!)
Men in Black
Terminator 2
Titanic
Toy Story 1
Toy Story 2
Wayne’s World

For me, the absolute best was “A River Runs Through It.”

After that, “Cold Comfort Farm,” and “Fight Club,” and “Schindler’s List.”

Honorable mention to “Groundhog Day” and “Pulp Fiction.”

Wait! What?

Why can’t you explain it? I rather enjoyed the fact that the movie has a pretty decent tight story arc… its a little mixed up what with the time travel and all but it works.

An adapted Elmore Leonard novel. Very cool crime fiction movie which actually contains a good little piece of acting by Jennifer Lopez. Great soundtrack as well.

Michael Keaton plays the same character here as he later did in Jackie Brown.

Don Cheadle is fantastic along with George Clooney playing a cool George Clooney.

Dances with Wolves (1990) must be included.

Many of mine have been mentioned, but not Fargo.

There’s also Shakespeare in Love. There’s also Dark City, which was basically a much smarter version of the The Matrix (and where the Wachowskis stole all the best concepts from).

As for those mentioned, I agree with **Three Kings, Out of Sight, The Usual Suspects, The Shawshank Redemption, 12 Monkeys,**and Lone Star

I’m pretty shocked that nobody’s mentioned Goodfellas.
Two more that would be in my top 10 are The Player and The Big Lebowski.

I thought Kingpin was the funniest movie Bill Murray’s been in since Caddyshack, and certainly one of the funniest movies of the 1990’s…

I know this is rather odd, but I didn’t like Goodfellas. Actually, I don’t really like Scorsese’s movies anyway, except Aviator, which I thought was brilliant.

I honestly forgot that came out in 1990. I thought it was late 80s, but it should be there.

Some films I really liked from the 90’s:
Princess Mononoke
LA Confidential
Election
Short Cuts
Babe:Pig in the City
Apollo 13
