What will be the "last straw" in the administration's assault on our country / democracy?

We are in the process of building a home in another country. My wife will spend part of the year in the US because of her parents. My fear is that the house won’t be done in time.

It will be interesting to see how MAGA reacts as the prices of food and other commodities continue to rise. I think they’re unrealistic enough to demand that Trump be given even more power to “solve the problem.”

Step by step, the longest march
Can be won, can be won
Many stones can form an arch
Singly none, singly none
And by union what we will
Can be accomplished still
Drops of water turn a mill
Singly none, singly none

Wrong thread.

15-page PDF. I’m working my way through it today…..

“Elections Without Democracy: THE RISE OF COMPETITIVE AUTHORITARIANISM (2002)”

It’s a little from Column A, a little from Column B, a little from Column Five – maybe a sort of “White European Men In Suits, rather than Military Fatigues” totalitarian state.

I’m not a fan, personally.

Thanks, I will definitely read it!

I wish I had the nerve! Retiring in another state took a toll! GL2u

I suspect we’re already there, we just need a leader to coalesce around, like water that’s supercooled but doesn’t freeze until you give it a catalyst.

Someone is going to step up, and when they do there will be a lot more resistance, up to and potentially including armed resistance. The problem is finding that person or group of people. It’s not that people are afraid, it’s that some people are leaders and the rest are followers.

But, if you’re looking for a specific “last straw”, it will likely be the suspension of the Constitution when they finally get around to passing their version of the Nazis’ Enabling Act. It may come sooner, but if it comes down to that we’re already a failed state so it’s absolutely go time.

The Secretary of Defense has reposted a video in which pastors argued that women shouldn’t have the right to vote.

The men that think women should have their vote taken away should consider the precedent they’re arguing for setting. The same is true of the white people who are arguing for taking away the civil rights of non-white people.

The problem, of course, is that they don’t. They think that Trump loves them back and all of this is about Trump taking from other people and giving it to them rather than Trump taking from other people and giving it to himself. They don’t realize that Trump sees himself as King and he isn’t doing all of this for the people he sees as his serfs.

Some have and they agree that some men, despite being White Christians, should not be allowed to vote. Some men which curiously never includes themselves.

This is not about the disenfranchisement of women, or any other group, this about the superenfranchisement of their group.

‘Only me and people who agree with me should have any say in the governance of The United States of America (pick one Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox) Jesus’

I put it down to the Degeneration of Society with Time.

We should bally well go back to the Good Old Days when only male landowners with a High Net Worth could vote. Should never have allowed the riff-raff in!

(Wait a minute… that would exclude me. Oh Bother!).

Really is going to be interesting, though, to see how far they can semi-legitimately rig the system via mid-decade gerrymandering, census revisions, etc. If they manage to hold both houses in 26, I expect it to be quite bleak.
