What will Fountains of Wayne open with?

I am seeing FoW tomorrow! I am so psyched!!!11!!iiiioneoneoneone It’s at a tiny place too, HoB, only a thousand or so people!

So, what do you think they will open with? I have even odds on these:

Mexican Wine
Utopia Parkway

Since songs that are good album openers are also good concert openers. I also think they may start off with one of these songs, but they are more likely for starting off their encore:
Staci’s Mom (even though I think they have too much pop sensibility to perform such a Beck-ish middle-finger stunt as to start the CONCERT with this, it would be hilarious, since thats the second worst song on W.I.M.!)
All Kinds of Time
Leave the Biker (this would actually make a good opening or encore-opening song, despite it also being their best song.)
It Must be Summer

I think their SECOND song will be Bright Future in Sales. Yes, it’s predictable since it’s the second song on WIM, but the drum opening is a kick-ass way to keep the music going.

Okay, this is probably too specialized a topic for anyone to post on, but I do have an update.

So, I was waiting in line at the HoB Thursday, when I noticed the clientele in line was not the type of people I would expect for FoW. A bit youngish. Then I saw the t-shirts they were wearing proclaiming their affection for another band.

Turns out, I was in line for…GWAR! Righto, the actual Fountains of Wayne is next week.

I tell this to you now only to point out the irony of standing in line to get front-row space at Gwar. Of all the bands in the world to get front-row space at, Gwar would be at the bottom of my list

(Although, I did contemplate for a second that Gwar was opening for FoW…naaaah. Actually, Evan Dando is!!!)

When I saw FOW last July, I think they opened with “Mexican Wine.” There’s a thread in here somewhere if you want to search for it. It was a good show.

I don’t know, I think they’re aware enough of their audience (half fans, half hangers-on) to give a more subtle wink to the ones who are paying attention. My money’s on

Bought for a Song

And I really really hope you get to hear Radiation Vibe and Red Dragon Tattoo. And if all the stars are lined up, perhaps they’ll cover Man It’s So Loud In Here (TMBG) which Adam Schlesinger produced for their album Mink Car.

Enjoy!
