What will the Republicans do if Trump implodes before the convention?

Trump Soho

I’m sill convinced he doesn’t really want to be president, and would not be surprised if he sabotaged his own campaign to lose, and then blames on the press for going after his “gotta be me, politically incorrect” wonderfulness.

I could easily put up a foot-long post just of links to news about his fraud problems over Trump University. Not even any actual verbiage from them, just the links!

I’m with you on the GOP part – but the other part, about routinely putting him or his latest soundbite on the air, isn’t that the “he’s gotten billions of dollars worth of free advertising because the media loves covering his latest announcement” bit?

Being a surrogate in the Trump campaign is only marginally more demeaning than being a surrogate in The Handmaid’s Tale

If I understand it correctly, his money making scheme isn’t so much about actually building stuff, but licensing his name to stuff other investors build while using his brand.

What will his “brand” be worth after this spectacular shit show?

All through the primaries–and especially during the debates–he was constantly referring to the polls. For Trump, the polls have been a teleological justification of his free rein–of his carte blanche to pay no heed to anyone or anything, as you say.

Granted, I agree that he would readily ignore the polls for any other reason, but he is so wedded to the identity of being a “winner” – or perhaps just not being a loser – that it seems conceivable he would indeed pay them heed when it comes down to the final line.

Ha! Yes indeed.

This is pitch perfect!

I think you’re forgetting how high a profile he had in politics *before *the election. And now he’ll have all his rabid fans and be a former GOP nominee!

But take for example this Onion article from way back in 2012:

Your link states that the criminal investigation has been closed. So what he is going to be arrested for?

Trolling an entire nation.

Well, he could call Hillary a bitch or use the “C”-word in front of a live mic on television in reference to her or some other female who has gotten under his tissue paper thin skin. Of course, there is no guarantee Ryan, McConnell or any of the other spinally impaired party leaders would rebuke him for that.

Or he could suggest someone should shoot her. Not likely to alienate his base but I would hope that would get the party establishment to say enough is enough.

Are you kidding me? The man’s a freaking nutbar. His business success has been fueled by basically being more ruthless than anybody else. And because of that success, he’s convinced his shit don’t stink.

But it’s the only job Chris Christie can get now.

Quite a bit, though a lot less from the upscale elite segment and a lot more from a larger downmarket base. There will still be a lot of people who’ll buy what he brands and more than a few investors who will not be above going after that market and associating with him to do so.

Yeah, really. As of one year ago conventional wisdom was that any politician who said even one tenth of what he has said would be dead meat. Yet look t him now.

Yep, he’s entirely an embarassment and someone you can’t stand and will make a dog’s breakfast of the economy… but, but… NO!!! NOT A DEMOCRAT!!! NNOOOOOOO!!! He was not kidding when he said short of shooting someone in broad daylight in the middle of 5th Avenue he could do anything and he’d keep going up in the poll. His followers *want *someone who is “out of fucks to give” and can get away with it, they wish they were that guy.

The Trumpeteers are now scaring the Machine Republicans worse than the Tea Party did, and even the Tea Party-sponsored officeholders are looking kind of pale. Of course, they desperately want the Trumpistas to vote for them instead of deciding they are “part of the problem”.

You may be right.

She might have to run a Vince Foster play on him…

So you’re saying he’s Drunk Uncle? I can see that.

The veritable definition of putting our country ahead of a party is to never vote for a Republican. When will you realize that?

Top article on Huffington Post is Trump Implodes

If you’d support Alan Grayson over John Kasich that would be putting party over country.

Continuing to throw partisan bombs in this thread is putting being inflammatory over real discussion.
