What would a total stranger comment on/ask you about?

Did you look more like Abe Vigoda or Vin Deisel?

Ha! This reminds me of my EMT days. There was a woman on my crew who was absolutely tiny. She would call everyone “dear” and had this maternal way about her, and our elderly patients always adored her. I, on the other hand, have a curvier figure and a more aloof demeanor. The elderly didn’t typically warm up to me, but our drunk male patients loved me. They would prefer to talk to me or let me touch them, rather than anyone else on the call – particularly a male crew member.

I get comments on my voice. Examples: “Do you work at NPR?” and similar remarks. I tell them no, and don’t mention that I’ve done voice-over work, and lots of vocal music. And I’ve done Barry White imitations in private at times for fun. But those are not with strangers.

“Man, you sound like you should be in radio.”

I get that ALL the time. From random strangers at places like sandwich shops, grocery stores, the DMV, you name it.

I apparently sound vaguely like a younger, less dorky(?) Bob Phillips from Texas Country Reporter, although I don’t hear it myself.

Oh, and I’m tall enough at 6’1" and apparently approachable looking enough that I get asked to get stuff off of high shelves at retail stores surprisingly regularly.
