What would be the best way to hunt Brontosaurus?

Ok here’s the deal. It’s 2007. Brontosauruses have mysteriously reappeared and are roaming the lands in africa or whatever sort of ecosystems would support them. People have decided that we can actually hunt and kill them without threatening their population. The question is, how do we do it? Assume that major corporations are interested in this undertaking. They want to kill the beasts without damaging too much of the meat or the hides. What do you think is the most effective way to do this? We don’t want to spend too much money on each individual kill, as it would cut into our profits. They can’t be tamed and farmed.

They can’t reappear since the never existed. They were a classification mistake.

Change all your references to Apatosaurus and proceed.

RPG to the head.

Remember when Legolas took out that Oliphant in ROTK all by himself… I’d do that… but with more extreme and more awesome.

You know how long it takes a Brontosaurus to die even after a complete decapitation? Neither do I. But I bet it’s quite a long time. That head doesn’t have much in it. It’s basically an elephant’s trunk for gathering food, the brain in their don’t amount to squat. How much blood goes to the head? Almost none.

So you shoot the Brontosaurus in the brain and what happens? What does the body do?

With a trained T-Rex?

Telemark, that is not quite true. Brontosaurus is an accepted name for the creature known as the Apatosaurus. Apatosaurus has priority but it is still acceptable and understandable to use Brontosaurus to describe the Saurapod in question.

To the Op, I believe your best hope is to find a cost effective kill shot to the head. Perhaps a high powered rifle with explosive bullets would be the cheapest method.

A was thinking with an A-10 Thunderbolt.

“The General Electric Aircraft Armament Subsystem A/A49E-6 (30 millimeter Gun System) is located in the forward nose section of the fuselage. The gun system consists of the 30mm Gatling gun mechanism, double-ended linkless ammunition feed, storage assembly and hydraulic drive system.”

So, you could place your shots.

Well, since this is a fictinal 2007, I would take my Hoth Snow Speederand harpoon the legs. After a couple of revolutions around the beast, I would release the cable and wait for the animal to trip. Once it is imobilized, it will be much easier to kill.

I see we have a lot of head shot enthusiasts on the dope. I was thinking some type of giant tranquilizer dart or poisoned giant arrow. Something that would either put it to sleep or poison it within 10 minutes. Then you’d have dozens of natives (cheap labour) go at the thing with a giant hacksaw to its neck. Kind of messy, but hopefully the natives would be plentiful and easily trained. Plus they’d get a brontosaurus toe, it would feed their vilage for weeks.

The best way to hunt {bronto|apata}saurus? From a distance!

Nah, poison’s no good. We don’t want to spoil the meat. It’s got to be a head shot.

Using a tranquilizer or poision that wouldn’t harm the meat, of course!

Ethilrist has the answer. It was the first thing I thought of…RPG to the head.

I remember hearing as a wee lad that the american natives would rub their arrow heads on poisonous frogs and use them to take down deer and stuff. That could have been BS but I’m hoping we could come up with something like that for the dinosaurs

You could attempt to herd one over the side of a cliff or maybe dig a BIG pit and find a way to lure it into the trap.

Between digging the large pit and carving up and removing the 30 tons of Bronto Burgers from said pit, I considered and discarded the pit idea.

I was going to say hellfire missiles from an Apache helicopter, or feed it an explosive device, but that might affect the meat.

Missiles my ass. I’d use a Swiss Army knife. And not one of those big honking ones, either. The tiny one with just one blade, the scissors, and the toothpick.

I got a bad visual from that. :stuck_out_tongue:
