While waiting for my turn at the barbar shop yesterday, I was flipping through an old copy of a paper with an interview with Seth Green. It mentioned that, had Angel gone on for a sixth season, his character ‘Oz’ would have come back for a few episodes to give Angel’s werewolf girlfriend (I can’t remember her name) some tips on how to deal with lycanthropy.
This of course indicates that Joss & co. had at least tentatively plotted out the sixth season’s story-arc. And obviously, the storyline for the fifth season was altered significantly after ME found out they’d been given the boot by the WB. (I doubt the “Illyria” storyline would have been started at all if they knew they’d been cancelled.) It just makes me wonder what was going to happen (originally) at the end of the fifth season, and what was planned to occur in the next season.
I had noticed that many folks on these boards were always spoiled by at least half a season ahead of time. Might anyone know what would’ve happened if the WB had been smart enought to hang onto this show?
While I think some stuff was changed as it looked more and more like the end of the road, Whedon says that the series finale had always been his plan for the S5 finale, even if there was to be a future for the show, so it would have played on from there. That said, for my money, the last episode was so perfect that I’m glad it was the end of the show. I don’t think anything could top it in being both so sublime and so right for the characters.
I agree with Cliffy that the ending to Angel was about as perfect as a series finale gets. I wish they’d have been able to do the Seth Green stuff in s5, since there wre definitely some episodes I could have done without.
Some company that I can’t remember is going to start making Angel comic books again sometime this year, but I’ll probably consider anything that happens after s5 to be non-canon.
What I heard was, the original plan was that Fred and Illyria would have been seperated, but each having a little bit of the other’s personality. The same actress would have played both roles.
I can’t vouch for the accuracy of that, but it’s what I’ve heard.
How this would have happened, I dunno. I suspect it would have involved Illyria’s time manipulation abilities. When I first saw that, I thought “reset button.”
