Since taxes are generally paid through employer withholding on a “pay-as-you-go” basis, and many (if not most) people get a refund, this wouldn’t accomplish much.
Not to mention the fact that refusing to work (as in a general strike) is not illegal. Refusing to pay taxes is.
4 people in one household, 1 job and 2 people on SSDI in an expensive state [my property tax bill is $14 000 per year not counting school tax, water bill or anything else the town, state or federal government wants to lay on us] We are lucky to eat something other than rice and beans most of the time.
Can we just stop pretending that conservative morals/ethics, for the most part, are not conditional and self-serving? Pointing out hypocracy on their part is a fool’s game and a waste of time.
Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit:
There must be in-groups whom the law protectes but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
It is simple.
I don’t know the magic number but it is going to take a large chunk of the populace to wake up from their beaten down and overworked complacency. That will take the lack of all the distractions we numb ourselves with. Gaming, streaming, fast food, porn, alcohol etc. When they finally make the supply chain so broken and enough people can’t pay their internet bill, we will find out.
Protests? They merely giggle.
Violence? They can’t wait for someone to try.
Hit their profits hard? They will fall to their knees shockingly fast. And they are getting us halfway there.. They have been writing their names on the wall, metaphorically. But people have to wake up and see that it may hurt to do the general strike, but living as they plan for us is going to be way worse. Indescribably worse.
