The Peel Trident was a 2-seater…or you could use the second seat to haul home your shopping!
Early 70s I’m thinking one of the Volkswagen dubs like the Bradly GT or MG TD. Those could be had really cheap depending on how badly the original owner put them together and almost all were 2 seaters and not considered a “real car” by most people. Now they are collectors items in and of themselves; especially the Cords
Something made by Cushman would be my guess for a “not quite a car” that would be floating around the US in the early 70’s.
Oh, that is adorable. I would drive that in a heartbeat, if I didn’t fear being crushed like an empty aluminum can by some idiot in a Hummer or big rig.
There was one of them in my town when I was a kid. I loved watching the fellow get out by opening the entire front of the car.
Citroen 2CV?
Any idea how old the vehicle was when he was buying it ?
Could be a Goggo mobile , maybe the dart version,
or the Meschersmitt…
The Morris Mini was still available new, could have been a ute version with no back seat.
Of course the Chevrolet Vega and Ford Pinto couldn’t really take adults in the back seat, so may be considered 2 seaters.
Dolly?
Pinto ?
Man did they suck back int he day.
Drunk frat brother in the back of my Pinto. I check under hood while fuelling up. Small head gasket oil fire. Drunk asks what I’m doing. I say I’m putting the fire out. Drunk freaks and tries to get out – from the back seat of a Pinto. Doesn’t go well. Not possible for a drunk to get out of the back seat of a Pinto. Put out the fire, pay for the gas, and drive away. With the drunk in the back still freaking and trying to get out as we roll down the road.
Soylent Juicy–anybody guess right?
Well since Unsafe at Any Speed came out in '65 he could be taking about the Corvair, although it was an actual car.
It had a full bench back seat that could be folded down. Highschool friend had one.
Au contraire! Crappy cars we bought or didn’t buy when we were young and poor are primary, FUN topics of conversation when guys get our age. There was this mid-60s Beetle. I had only driven a stick once before, but despite his protestations at my incompetence, it was obvious it needed a new clutch. Then there was…
Ask him or have him join and start a thread about crappy cars. Far more laughs than tears.
… or a shopping cart. ![]()
My high school yearbook teacher had one of those! He was a big man - over 6 feet tall and about 300 lbs. - and he filled the entire front of it. Some of the guys on the yearbook staff would prank him by picking the car up and moving it to different areas in the parking lot.
