Buy a little 2-slip long abandoned marina up on Minnesota’s north shore, clear out the two boat skeletons and build a nice tiny cabin/polebarn. Then get to work buying cheap neglected sailboats, then fix them up. Do the same somewhere down in the bahamas for winter.
- Pay off debts.
- Pay off family debts
- Set up funding for schooling LittleMiss
- Buy a house-nothing ostentatious. Something built pre 1940, 4 bedrooms, nice yard.

You all are thinking too small. We’re talking about a LARGE sum of money. Let’s say a Billion.
I’d give everyone in my very large extended family at least 5 million. More if they’ve had a greater impact on my life.
I’d cultivate an entourage with whom I would travel the world. Not an entourage like some hip-hop star, but more of a band of necessary travelling companions and paid personell consisting of some or all of the following:
- Close friends and family that want to come along
- Bodyguards (variable number depending on where I’m going)
- Personal secretary
- Interpreters
- Masseus
- Butler(s) and other servants
- Personal physician
- Pilot
- Chef
- Chauffer
With this bunch, I’d go see everything…I mean EVERYTHING. There’s a hell of a lot of cool stuff on this planet and a lot of great people in the world to meet. I’d select a region or country to explore, set up home base in a major city, and set out from there to thoroughly explore the area. Then, after a period of time, move on to somewhere else.
Obviously, I’d need something to travel in, so depending on where I am, I might use a private jet (not Lear, I’m talking 747), a very VERY large yacht, a convoy of buses, hummers, or motor homes, or a combination of all.
As I travel the world, I’d engage in random acts of philanthropy, bestowing substantial gifts to people, schools, orphanages, or other organizations that I deem fit. That way, rather than part of my contribution going to pay the overhead of some charitable organization, I can put all the money where it is needed.
That should take up a lot of my time and make for a pretty amazing life.
Well, like that guy on the Millionaire program who won, I would pay the taxes first, & of that, I would have $550,000 to spend…
That might purchase a small one bedroom house in my city
Quit my job. Do some freelancing so I could do the parts of it I like and blow off the parts I don’t like.
Other than that: Pay bills, give to charity, blah blah
Stay in the house where I live now, but add A/C and a first-floor powder room.
Books and CDs.
The big splurge would be a beach house…
Whores.
Lots and lots of whores.
Kidding.
Well, I’ll take it that I get $100,000,000 and thanks to a good tax lawyer, manage to end up with about $85,000,000.
Buy some real estate, not necessarily developed areas, but rather some that may soon be developed.
A few cars, not too many, after all I can only drive one at a time.
STUFF.
Oh yeah, first thing I would od would be to have the money changed to cash and have it all put in a room and i would roll around in it for about 10 minutes.
Why?
Because I can, dammit!!!
One million would be fine for me
i’d go move to california or somewhere with no more snow, i can’t take it anymore…freakin winnipeg
then
sigh i’d buy my Nissan Skyline R-32 or 34
dear god, what i would do to get my hands on one…
whips away tears

Invest half of what’s left.
Finance the mother of all clothes, CD, and DVD shopping sprees.
Travel.
Adopt a kitten or five. Probably five.
Go back to college and earn about a half-dozen degrees.
Pay off my parents’ house.
Take a LOOOOOOONG and very well deserved vacation and travel all over the world. First to Great Britain, then down through Europe, then hit Africa, move across to Australia, up through China, then Japan, then into Russia, then over to Alaska, down through Canada, travel down the West Coast, down into Central America, then South America, then hit Hawaii.
Then toss the rest into savings and go back to work.
Probably get out of an apartment and into a house with a yard and buy some dogs.
and buy everything on my list of CDs and Movies that I want.
- pay off debts
- pay off mother’s house, father’s house, m-i-l’s house

- put children in alternative schools so that they get exposure to foreign language some time before high school
- open restaurant
- Put about half of winnings away for retirement
I’d stick it in my ears and say pbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbt!!!
After taking care of various personal and family debts, and investing the bulk of the money to provide lifelong income…
Endow a trust to fund science-fiction conventions in Montreal in perpetuity.
Seriously. I’ve been kicking this idea around for some time. I want to be the patron of Con*Cept.
Ok this is what I would do.
50 to 75 Mil tax-free should do it.
Buy Land 10 to 20 acres and build my Dream House thinking Octagon shaped. Lot’s of room, and lot’s of yard so that daugther and cousins can get together and play. Nice play-yard, sand box, Swing-set, stuff like that.
Also, Swimming Pool, maybe Basketball court.
Nice Living Room with fireplace, Family Room with big screen flat TV and DVD/VCR machine. Library/Big Office for myself and hubby 2 Computers with Internet Access for both. Roomy Bedroom for us, lots of walk-in closet space. A big Master Bath with Sunken Tub, Big Shower. Bathrooms, not sure how many in the house, full and half. A nice Bedroom for daugther, with the furnishings I dreamed of as a girl. 3 or 4 four Bedrooms, 1 or 2 for future kids, and a couple of Guest Rooms. Big, Nice Kitchen - with all the machines and equipment needed. Dining Room, and dinette off kitchen for everyday meals. Also nice wrap-around deck.
Finished and Furnished Rumpus Room, with dress-up stuff, a stage and music available for play, TV and DVD/VCR to play movies.
Enough Land around house if we need to build additions.
Enough for normal people, Not Graceland.
I would have cleaning service to clean every couple of weeks.
Go to College, get Business Degree, Husband can also go to College and get his degree, who goes first does not matter, as long as we get it done. Then maybe graduate school for both.
Help my mom with her finances, my dad just died and she’s having problems, pay her mortgage, maybe give her a stipend.
Help my brother, maybe send him to Culinary School.
Help my sister with College and her Landscaping Business.
Help my family in law - with money for college if they want.
Put money into trust for daughter and niece’s and nephew’s for College.
Daughter can go to best school’s
I would keep working my job, I like it but I would negoiate for 3 months off in the Summer, every year for traveling, go back to Singapore, Hong Kong, Bali, go back to Victoria-Vancover Canada,
and go other places in U.S. and the World that haven’t been to yet. Stay at all the nice places, experience everything.
Go on the Ultimate Shopping Sprees, every so often.
Since I am still working my job, I would go shopping for new Work Clothes, nice suits, shirts, shoes etc . Same for hubby.
I like my car just fine and it’s pretty new and will be paid off soon, so I’ll keep it, but will install a tape, CD deck, with CD Changer.
When it’s time for a new car maybe a Subaru Forester Wagon, or maybe Saturn VUE but high end. With daughter and future kids need MOM car. Hubby gets new car.
Invest probably half for retirement, so we can live very well.
If I could, I would buy the local radio station, they play suck Music
Program it my way, the music I like, it would be called WJNN.
After dream house is done get big name musical acts to play concerts for me and family at my house.
I would also buy chunks of land all over where I live so it could not be built, or ruined by civilization creeping in.
I guess that’s it.
I was reading the ticker on CNN news the other day and saw that the estimate for damages on the WTC is $8.2 BILLION. And I thought, wouldn’t it be nice to have eight point two billion dollars?
I’d give a billion to my mom, right off the bat. And I’d invest a billion. Then, I’d pay off my house and do all the fixing and redecorating I’ll probably never be able to do IRL. I’d pay off my car, fix the dents, and give it Don, this really cool Vietnam Vet I know since he doesn’t have a car. I know he hates to ask people for rides to places, so then he wouldn’t have to anymore.
I would then, of course, have to buy a new car. I have no idea what kind I’d get since I have absolutely no limits. And I’d probably get my SO a car, too. He drives this faded, rusty old '93 Tempo. Ick.
I’d buy the hotel I work at, just for the hell of it. No, I’d build my own and have the cheapest rates in town just to steal business from the hotel I work at. BWAHAHAHA!!!
I’d probably give a ton of money away.
I’d buy the Vikings just so I could slap Randy Moss upside the head and get away with it.
I’d never in my life be able to spend that much money. But I’d have a lot of fun trying. Who’s up for a shopping spree?
Firstly, I’d pay off the mortgage on my mother’s house and any debts she may have [I’d add some retirement fund money in there so she could retire early], then buy her a flat in Iceland so she’d have a place of her own for when she wanted to go back home. I’d then buy myself a flat and a summerhouse up there in Reykjavik and not far from Reykjavik. [It’s gorgeous there.] I’m going to need a car in both this country and up there, so I’d get a sensible car with lots of storage/passenger space for this country, and then a fun car that can go off-roading for Iceland. [I’d have to put it in storage or have someone take care of it when I’m not there.] Then I’d put aside tuition money through a master’s degree program… or two; hell, enough for a couple of doctorates in multiple areas. [I’m a college freshman; that’s quite a bit away for me yet.] After that, I’d set up a prepaid college fund for my fiance [he’s not in college just yet] so that he wouldn’t have to worry about money for college and just work on a degree in an area that he loves. I’d also give his parents money to obtain patents with. After that, I’d probably invest a bit of it for when I choose to retire. [Yes, I aspire to have a career in which I’m happy with working in until I’m old.] Then I’d give some money to my best friend’s mother for his college education and also to finish paying the tuition for the high school he’s attending now. With whatever was left, I’d probably spend on things like dvds, books, and a home of my own in a beautiful area, and put away enough money for wedding expenses. Of course, in the shopping spree for fun stuff, I’d get plenty of garb for myself and the fiance to last us a long time. [I love dressing up like a wench, but I’d also like some upperclass stuff too.] Hell, I’d probably have a movie theatre-type room built into the house that I bought/built with this money. I’d also donate to a lot of charities and get some of my friends on their feet finanacially. Knowing anything, I’d give them money towards a college education at any school they wanted… even if they wanted to get a master’s degree or two. After that, if there was any left, I’d just put it into a savings account and let it sit and collect interest slowly. You know, just in case the retirement investment account goes sour.
- Pay off my student loans
- Get myself a better car
- Invest the rest
Or you could do something patriotic and noble like rebuild the World Trade Center. Instead you just want to spend it on your own rotten self and your icky friends and family.
[sub]Selfish creep. The terrorists have won.[/sub]
I’d become a fop, buy a modest house someplace to store my stuff, and then just live off the interest and travel, working a string of minimum wage jobs for a couple of years to see how quickly I can get fired from each one by living out my fantasies of telling customers exactly what I want to say without fear of retribution. Then when I tired of that, I’d go back to school, take lessons on a different musical instrument every week, and just go about learning, traveling and exploring until my head explodes.
I would give my parents some money, but I wouldn’t tell anyone else but my closest friends that I could trust how much money I actually had. I’d anyonymously donate to charities and such.
How much space program (with 21st-century technology, remember) can you get for USD 8.2 billion?
